hey all,
i've lowered my hgt, got 17 wheels on and i'm hearing a creaking/ cracking / knocking (not knocking reguarly, eg as the wheel passes the same point) noise from the front drivers side wheel.
i thought it was the c.v. joint but the mechanic says the noise is not that.HAs anyone experienced anythingf similar?
i ask because it's gonna be difficult just to get the car in the garage and i'd like some idea of cost before i get it stuck in there.

Check the tyre isn't fouling on the louvre at the front of the inner wing (mud/dirt guard).

it's not that mate, it's noise from metal. (i just double checked)

I had a knocking noise coming from my front left a few months ago. It was a slight clunk every time the wheel rotated. Anyway, after having a look at it, i noticed that part of the undertray (a jagged looking bit) sits just above the drive shaft where its got that ribbed rubber (no laughing, i can't remember the proper name)over it. A couple of screws that hold the tray up were missing from when it had last been in a garage, and the tray was half resting on the driveshaft which kept catching it as it rotated.

Got some cable ties out and secured the tray, and that stopped the noise.

To see the bit of the tray i'm talking about you need to look down through the engine bay just next to the timing belt cover.

Not sure if it's the same problem as yours but its a quick thing to check and rule out.

****, should be front right wheel.....Drivers Side like yours! Soz! :)

Worn wheel bearing, lower ball joint, inner arm bushes, many MANY things.

CV joints are usually the last things to go and don't clunk when driving straight unless they are REALLLLY ****ed.
