Evening All,

Hopefully some-one can help me on this.

I have a whining noise on the engine that is omnipresent and goes up and down with the revs (much like a radio when the earth has gone). My dad said it may be the alternator but the battery has been fine.

I have noticed nor had any problems with it (performance etc), and this includes giving it a good test by driving it to Cardiff and back to see West Ham spectacularly fail (400 miles) this Bank Holiday.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks in advance.

Jamie

My car makes so much less noise now that the alt has been reconditioned so it could be on it's way out I guess. A bit more detail of your car may help though.

Model? Mileage? Recent problems (if any)?

I have a Bravo HLX '98. 50k on the clock.

Recently had the Lambda Sensor renewed. Last service was October. Never had any mechanical problems, at all, just electrical (alarm/ sun-roof is knackered).

Apart form that, she's been good.

Cheers
Jamie

Hmmm. Guess how many miles mine had on it when the alt went?

Yep, 50K. If it's going then it MAY whine so could be on it's way. They tend to just go as well rather than give decreased battery charge first. It either works or don't.

If you got AA/RAC cover I'd wait for it to go as it will cost nigh on £200 to get fixed.

OK - I'll keep the card in the car until then!

Thanks for your help.

I know what it is.

It's Bad Bad Bobby Abarth - he constantly whines and moans so much that it has invaded your imagination.

No probs. Keep checking the post though as Tom might finish stuffing that fat boy Pizza down his face soon (;)) and have some other ideas.

The alt can make lots of noise and it won't affect the battery.
