i own a 1.6 mk1 sx and i have a problem. my rev limiter has a mind of its own when the car is in 3rd/4th/5th gears and i am not applying any throttle. also goesup and down when changing gear. the other day a cahnged from 3rd to 4th and the engine died (not seized) and i just had to stop and restart. the car feels like it wants to do this again very occasionally only when i am not applying any throttle and changing gears. does anyone know what might be causing this cos i'd like to fix it myself now and its kinda dangerous!!!
cheers

The rev limiter will go up and down when changing gear becasue you lift your foot OFF the accelerater (spelling) :) 1 problem solved!

Re: Re: Weird behaviour

Also is the engine damp at all, Not been ran in a while?
My engine used to cut out when changing gears but i gave it a nice long run down the motorway to get some proper heat into the engine and that sorted it

:) Bravo my son Bravo!! :)

Re: Re: Re: Weird behaviour

no i had driven the car all day so it was def. hot enough. it makes o difference to the behaviour anyway. it tried to cut out when cold (and did) and continued to try (occasionally) when up to temp.
it ONLY does this when mentioned above.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Weird behaviour

did the injector warning lights come on?
Someone posted on the board who refersto similar problems and Fiat said rpm sensor going wrong, do a search...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Weird behaviour

It could be your clutch bearings maybe causing slip in gear change, my car used to do that! have them checked anyway because they heat up and shatter easily when you depress your clutch and when it shatters it knackers your clutch plate starter motor and gear box sheath! just a thought! maybe a good idea to have checked anyway!
