Getting a Bravo at the end of May. I am 17 on May 11th but getting the car anyway. Hopefully pass the test in 2 months. I am going to have a bit of money at the start to spend on the car and some along the months. I have drawn up a list what I am going to with the car -

June - CD/MP3 Player, Speakers
July - 15" Alloys, 5" Exhaust
August - 40mm Lowering Springs
September/October - Spoiler
Novemeber - Under Car Neons
December - TV and Video for front of car.

Maybe an induction kit as well! Will do more mods in 2005 (bodykit etc). I will have the money to do this and think the car will look pretty good. I am not sure on whether to get brand new 15s or second hand 17s. What do u think?

15 for comfort 17 for style.
check out some insurance companies and the effects on your premium if you mod before you buy any insurance, you dont want to get stiffed

Re: Re: Modifications

Checked out the insurance, mods included with Liverpool Victoria. It is very cheap and affordable under my dads name.

Re: Re: Re: Modifications

Good luck with the new car, what spec is it? why dont u meet in the middle and go with some 16's?

its not a clever idea goin on ur dads insurance as the no claims u accumalate u wont get! and when u come to insure it yourself in future ur gonna be bumped wiv a fat premium!

all the alloys n what not wont help at all lol .. if pigs are nasty they can do what they did to my m8 .. stuck his car in an impound just cause he had his neons on!

i pay £1600 TPFT on my own policy wiv "quote u happy mofo's" norwich union to thick people! and im 19

ur coming up 17 n will have a bravo...i see a dent in ur pcoket soon lol!

Re: Re: Re: Modifications

yet again a useful comment from RR! i drive a Lichen Green one and im defo not a cocksucker as u put it so nicely! ffs some comments u should just leave to urself!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Modifications

5" Exhaust ? hope you have a burbbery cap to go with that mate :) it is illegal to drive with a 5" exhaust if you don't wear one at all times :)

as for lichen green personally i really like it, other then the dull red i like all bravo colours especially broom yellow

Insurance

When I started driving I was insured on my parent's cars for a couple of years - couldn't afford a car of my own. When I got my first car I got it insured by the same company as my parents (Norwich Union I think), under the condition that they'd give me some NCB. Afterall, I'd been insured by them without incident for a couple of years. They were quite happy about it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Modifications

ive got a 4" rage zaust n it looks ok we tried a 5" and it looked well outta place .. far to big for the bravo ok on skylines and other super cars cause FFS they looked bad then! and arnt just for burberry crew!

Re: Insurance

At my age I can not get insurance on my own. It is £1400 for Fully Comp on a Corsa. So I thought, I will get a bigger engined car and go on my dads insurance. Looks like I will be getting a 1.6 or 1.8 for about £550 - £600 insurance a year. I clearly have enough to get a P reg etc. As for the mods I am going to have about £400 to play with in July. Thereafter about £100 a month. My friend has a twin 5" exhaust on his MK4 Astra Sport and that looks great. Non way am I getting a Burberry hat, lol.

Re: Insurance

One.
Insurance companies just like most service providers are human and we all build relationships with them. Dont be scared to ask questions that bother you...you are paying them after all. Like the other chap said, he got a deal on NCB etc.

I would however recommend that you get an insurance / wallet friendly Bravo like the 80SX which is potent, believe me.

Exhaust wise, I had a few rear cans placed on my car for looks etc to help me make my mind up. Money was not an object etc, yet all the staff at Evolution told me to not go more that 4". It's more than enough.

Good luck matey, and happy motoring.

Jay.

Re: Re: Re: Insurance

lol nice 1 there ian :) was thinkin the same thing,

at 17 ur gonna be driving a 1.6 or a 1.8 lol i see a dent coming on! lol 1.6 yeah but not a 1.8 ffs get summit insurance happy as said above! just cause its cheap on ya daddy's insurance like! gotta think of repairs n **** u might need to do! surely its more expsensive on 1.8 model than a 80sx

feckin hell id have a skyline if i was on mom n dads insurance lol :) be same as wht im paying on my own policy wiv a 1.4! or a cossie :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Insurance

forgot to add ...ur runing before u can walk and ur gonna fall! but ur 16...17 u wont listen lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Insurance

try getting a quote with elephant but put u as the main driver and add two more ppl with more no claims and for somereason they bring the quote down but it only works with 3 ppl

i bet u that u aint got all ur stuff 2 make ur bravo look nice.....all ur money will be on repairs just like me..i cant afford 2 get rid coz i payed by a loan...haha..aint we ******s

Re: Re: Modifications

What? and the Fiat Bravo is the only car that breaks down?

Yeah right!!

I have a P reg 1.4sx and I have only had to replace wear items, as well as the clutch after 65,000 miles. I am second driver as well because it would cost way too much for insurance on my own. When I come to get my own policy when I am maybe 23 or 4, yes I will have no no claims but my age on it's own will lower the premium. Plus by then I should be a solicitor and can afford it.

Re: Re: Re: Modifications

I am 22 first car got my insurance for 1100 fully comp Direct Line strongly recommend them oh it's a 1.6 2000 model HLX

Re: Re: Re: Re: Modifications

It's much better to get your own insurance as soon as possible, age makes a tiny difference to your premium, NCD makes a much bigger difference. My g/f was 22 when she got her 1st car, and it was still £800 as she had no NCD, and that was a 900cc Cinq (Group 1).

Also, insurance companies are wise to this now, it's not unusual for them to check up on it. E.g. 17 yr old named driver on parents policy, has crash, makes claim, insurers interview neighbours to find out who drives the car - bingo no payout, and both will be lucky to insure a chocolate bar for the forseeable future.

In the end you pays your money, you takes your chances, but if you can already budget for ICE, Wheels, Neons yada yada then you can afford the premium.
