Hi folks for some time now my temp guage only reads about quarter and it use to read 1st mark under half way and the fan kicked in at 1st mark above half way.Anyway just wondering why this is car still gets warm etc and fan believe it or not kicks in at 1st mark past half way what maybe causing my guage to read like this all help appreciated. If that lot makes any sense LOL oh and my petrol guage when it got to quarter used to go ape doesnt do it any more can anyone help.

As far as im aware this relates to a stuck thermostat or something like that.......Tom will explain further. Though many owners report happy motoring from their cars where the guage always sits at the 1/4 mark and only goes to 1/2 when in traffic.

If it is low I would check the stat as it can affect your fuel consumption as the ECU thinks the car is colder than it is and therfore feeds it more fuel. (I THINK, TOM TOLD US THIS IN A PREVIOUS POST)

Hope this helps a little

Re: Re: temperature guage

it is a stuck open thermostat by the sound of it.
one of my dads old cars used to have the opposite problem, it would stay shut, causing the engine to overheat, we took the thermostat out in the end, then we scrapped it!

Re: Re: temperature guage

Sticking thermostat - you're right.

Can be a bit irritating in the Winter as the heater wont work properly. Changing the thermostat is really easy and takes about 10 mins.

Tom....................?

Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

Cheers guys will be the job for this weekend is the thermostat on a 1.6 sx straight forward or is there anything i need to know before i proceed.Got a haynes manual will read that firstly.

Re: Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

Stuck thermostat :) Its just gone cold outside so thats why you are seeing this.

Changing the 1.6 stat is a bitch of a job, its also £50 :) I can't remember the size of the hose clips you need though. You CANNOT reuse the old ones.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

Forgot to add:

1st: battery out
2nd: unbolt ECU mounting from battery tray and lift ECU CAREFULLY out of way

When refilling open the bleed screw on the rad until water runs out, turn on the heater FULL, open the bleed screw on the pipe behind engine until water runs out, turn on engine and check heater gets hot.

I found I had to open the screw on the pipe behind the engine and rev the engine until water gushed out before it would bleed correctly.

DO NOT OMIT the heater test, you don't want to fry your engine just cos its full of air. :)

Someone PLEASE FAQ this on bravo guide!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

Ok my temperature gage acts funny as i mentioned in another post, but what sign should i look for that my thermostat needs replacing? it has never been replaced in now 6 years the car has, should it had been done? The heater works and all...so hope anyone can shed osme light on signs i can look for...and how much cost for a new one plus fitting it?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

Sorry Matey!

It took me 10 mins to change one in the Tipo and I assumed theBravo would be equally straight forward!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

If it runs colder when its cold outside is usually the best sign.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

Whats the proice for a new one

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: temperature guage

No idea on the 1.8

EASY

that thermostat is easy to replace! Try doing one on a Tipo Sedici, now that was a b*tch!!! On my tipo, the wax thermostat was operating ok but the rubber sealing ring was gone, you can bodge them with a new O-ring and was tempted cos it cost me 65 quid!
