Air Flow Meter

Recently I have been going around different garages trying to find out why my car is so low in power. It takes 24 secs to get from 0-60!!

The latest diagnosis from the first Fiat franchise I've tried is that the loss of power is due to a faulty air flow meter which they say will need to be replaced. It's going to cost around £200 + labour. Can anyone tell me what air flow meters actually do and why a car would lose power if it had such a fault?
I'm a bit worried this will not fix the problem at hand and it will be yet more dosh down the drain...
Cheers!

An airflow meter meters airflow into your engine. More air needs more fuel so if the airflow meter is not correctly metering the airflow the ECU won't add the right amount of fuel so you won't get the right power.

tom, can this be replaced alternatively with safc? like it's always been done in japaneez cars?

Re: Re: Re: Air Flow Meter

safc, as in super air fuel controller by apexi.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Air Flow Meter

Isn't that an ECU replacement? You still need the airflow meter.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Air Flow Meter

hmmm, it is actually a piggyback but it also controls the air and fuel mixture and intake as well. just wondering whether or not it can be replaced by safc, that's all.
