Somebody decided to test my rear bumper today at 60 mph on the motorway, guess what it broke. I was concerned that the car behind me was getting too close on occassions and when the usual hard braking that occurs from time to time on the motorway by all the cars for no apparrent reason happened he didn't stop in time. Fortunately as soon as I had to hit the brakes I knew he was going to hit me so I was prepared, but still ache all the same.
Cars left in outside carriageway and too dangerous to recover, some commuters are too keen to get to work and would't even slow so we could make our way to the safety of the grass verge as we waited for the police.
Swapped details with the other driver (who admitted liability!) but then he gave me some sob story about his insurance premium going up if I claimed and could he pay cash. 'Don't need a frigging sob story' he just hit my car so I told him that the car was probably bent and would need checking thoroughly, would be off the road for a week at least and I would require a hire car for the duration, also added that the impact had hurt my back and that it wasn't simply a case of sticking a new bumper on (it's a Fiat after all!). He tried again but I told him to cut his losses as I wasn't going to take it to court for him driving without due care and attention.
Really suprised the police didn't prosecute him anyway as they always moan about tailgaters on these police camera action type TV shows etc.
Oh well glad to get it off my chest, it is going to the insurers recommended garage on Wednesday for a check up an quote etc.
