Am I Indicating ?

I have a problem with my indicator stick thingy ?
(Sorry for getting all technical - LOL!)

Noticed it twice in the past couple of days, once while parked at lights waiting to turn right, and once this morning queueing on a sliproad.

On both occasions was indicating right, then look down a few seconds later and the indicator has stopped flashing/ticking but the stick is still up. Turn it off and back on and it's fine... any ideas ? The switch on the stick ? or the relay ?

TIA...

Re: Re: Am I Indicating ?

Will check the bulbs tonight... ;)

But I thought if one of the bulbs was going that the relay would speed up rather than stop working.. due to the load on the circuit changing.. will check them anyway though (can't believe I didn't already!)

If it stops indicating completely then the relay is the cheapest (therefore first!) point of call. Otherwise it could be the connectors for the indicator stalk itself.

Do they start working again if you wobble the steering wheel (obviously holding the stick in the same position), that would indicate (sorry for the pun) the latter.

I would go for the relay though.

Like I say, it's only happened a couple of times so far, but both times it was when the wheel was straight and kept straight. It's not done it when cornering or moving the wheel, but I suppose I wouldn't notice as much then anyway (although more dangerous), will test it when (if?) it happens again. Might get a relay in anyways... ;)

Increasing the load can also happen when you have a high resistance contact, most likely to occur at the bulb holder. Taking the bulb out and putting it back in again will probably be enough to put the connection back to normal. Obviously check for signs of corrosion in the bulb seat. If its there, more drastic cleaning is required!

This can also happen at any connector/plug. Unplugging connectors and replugging can clear faults like this.

75% of all electrical faults are due to some form of connector problem.
