Found rain water in the back passenger footwell, pretty well damp, and can't find where its coming from.

Saw a posting on this site for front footwell leak probs, so I was wondering as this seems to be a standard prob, is this the case at the back, with a known cure?

Hopefull, Colin

Is the water only in the back ? Or has it managed to reach the back from the front ? Is the front dry ?

You could as a mater of routine, check the passenger side area I described in a previous posting. It might be that the water can also reach the back.

If its not that, then its likely the water is coming in from the back area, seeing as the leak is there. Give your boot seal a good visual check and feel for dampness inside. Check around the rear side windows, are they damp around the edges ?

Have you tried tracing the water in the rear ? Feel for any other damp areas to see if you can find a source.

Check the passenger door seal too. Any damp inside the car around this ?

Re:Reply to leak, back passenger footwell

The damp patch is in the middle of the footwell behind the driver's seat.there does not seem to be any damp areas around it - the plastic trim along the floor below the door is not wet - the boot is dry - I need to wait till the rain stops to lift back the carpet etc!!! - the floor is not wet anywhere else - any ideas?
Thanks
Colin

Re: Re:Reply to leak, back passenger footwell

I wonder if it could be the handbrake ? There must be a seal for the brake cable to come through the frame work. Does the water come in when the car has been standing ? or after you have driven ?

My guess is that if its when the car is standing, its not going to be the handbrake.

I hope you have some luck tracing the issue. I now have another leak ! Which I'll post about on the site. I suggest you dry the carpet out as best you can, then with a hose pipe, carefully soak parts of the car with water until the carpet gets wet again. Do the traditional areas, the doors, the boot extra. If you are careful and only use the hose pipe on one potential source of the leak at a time, you'll be able to trace the source checking if the floor gets after you've soaked the area.
