Motor Show at NEC

Popped up to the old NEC last week and I must say I was unimpressed with Fiat and blown away by Alfa. I had a good look/sit/play with the Stilo Abarth and it really isn't up to much. The exterior looks quite nice, but the interior was very bland, and that was the top of the range with all the bits.

On the other hand, I had a good look/sit/play with the Alfa 147 and must say it looks the muts nuts. The GTA version is stunning. Just need £23,000 now....

Think I'm going to have a look to the NEC this weekend. Is it worth going?

Re: Re: Motor Show at NEC

Me too, My brother got me a couple of free tickets to go. He's been at the NEC on and off over the last couple of weeks as he works for Pirelli in the Marketing department. Which is code for Gets to hang around at car shows talk to models and look at cools cars all day long!! jammy or what??!!

It depends on what you want from it really. The NEC not all that far from the North East. I'm looking to buy a new car next year so really went to check out the cars I have in mind. If you can stomach the £8 to park and the hoards of people then it's good for a wander. There's also loads of stands selling cheap bits 'n' bobs, and then the models looking sexy.

Smart roadster & Street Ka

Was there on Friday looking at the mundane stuff then suddenly came across Smart Roadster, real nice.

Real fancy, would look good next to the Bravo in the driveway. Pity its a 2 seater, but who cares!

Another cracker is the convertable KA, how Ford can justify doubling the price by taking the roof off is another sign of ripoff Britain, but its still lovely to look at. Colin

FAO : ROB

If I'm going it will be this saturday.

U going?

Re: Re: FAO : ROB

Rob, I just got back from the show, it's mint.

DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT miss the mini show, it's the mutts nutts, it runs at half past every hour, but make sure you're queing by 20 to the hour (eg, if you want half 3, q at 20 to 3) otherwise you wont get in, it fills up fast.

By the way, i thought the best thing on the fiat stand was the motability modified multipla! is this a sign of just how dead fiat are becoming???????

Re: Re: Re: FAO : ROB

Nice one Tony. Will remember that.

Tony/Si What you up to Saturday night? I've got to get the details sorted but there should be some car action going on in Lincoln? Are you guys (and any one else) interested in meeting up?

Rob D

Re: Re: Re: Re: FAO : ROB

Rob i've mailed you.

Sorry can't meet i'm getting pissed for my b'day.

Fiat dead, your dead right !

You hit it on the nail Chum, if it were not for family comitments, I would get one of them new Smart Roadsters or a KA convertable.

I drooled over them!!!!!!! Colin

Re: Re: Re: Re: FAO : ROB

Yeah mate, i'm up 4 it. mail me with any details whenever ya get 'em.

I got you're mail, don't know of any impending notts stuff but i'll keep my ear to the ground. Don't know if you know or not but i'm from Worksop, and usually go down mansfield 2 or 3 nights a week (it's like a mini cruise every night) so i usually hear about the notts stuff.

P.S, Worksop's on the A57, which goes straight through to Lincoln, could meet up in the scottish ducks (Mc Donalds) drive thru for Sat???

T.

Don't miss the minis

As mentioned above DON'T MISS THE MINI SHOW !

This was the best thing at the show by far !

The Fiat stand was a bit small and the Multipla mentioned above was a star, the Stilo a let down, although my g/f was equally impressed by the Punto Storting and Siecento Abarth... One thing I will say for Fiat though is at least they are making cars that look like cars ! unlike Renault.. WTF is the new Megane about ?!? and that Velsatis ?!?! and then Nissan with the new Micra (and convertible!)

Stars of the show for us were the RAV 4 Sport (I could't believe how good this was) and of course the MINI Cooper S - Seriously Nice!

Funniest moment was seeing the two glamour models from the Fast Car Magazine stand wandering around lost at 7:15 PM :)
"Is it this way ?"
"Yes"
"oh no, I think it's this way isn't it ?"
"I Don't know"

Barakka

PS- take food, we paid £7.50 for two sandwiches

Time

Does any one know what time the Motoshow opens?

Re: Re: Time

Had a hired Vel Satis a while back: it's a really good car! Loads of toys, a really good diesel engine, handles well, and really comfortable.

Unfortunately, being a French car, the build quality was trash. Three bits of trim fell off, two cubby holes refused to open once things had been put in them, the car didn't recognise the entry keycard on two occasions, the navigation system didn't work if it was dark, and the cruise control forgot how to count several times (it missed out the number 6 on the settings).

I think I'd be very nervous if I'd spent my own money on it: it's a shame, I'd love to see some innovative designs do well.
