Upgrading Fiat radio with Fiat radio

Any idea how difficult it would be to replace an S spec radio (the crap one with round volume control and 2 speakers) with a markII SX spec radio + the extra 4 speakers? To cut a long story short, imported car from Cyprus, checked everything was UK spec apart from radio..and sod's law, the radio wasn't!! The geezer wants a fiat radio for warranty purposes. I guess I'd need all the leads and speakers for the 2 in the dash and the 2 in the rear (I'm assuming the 2 footwell ones are the same/similar output). Has anybody who has totally upgraded their ICE got a SX spec headunit with the 4 extra speakers, all cables...and possibly a mcd46 autochanger, again with all cables that they want to sell? If so, how much. If it's a big job then I won't bother. Cheers folks.

Sorry people, I notice thta every1 is asking about a Fiat radio at the moment....it's getting like the 'what CD changer is compatible with my radio' threads :) Anyhows, just to clarify, I need headunit, 4 speakers, possibly CD autochanger, with ALL cables. Cheers.

re: upgrading radio

Hi Gaz

I'm in a similar position to you, just bought a 96 Brava 1.8ELX with the crap radio you described and am looking at upgrading to the higher spec model and maybe a cd changer. However I've noticed that the rear speakers are actually installed in my car although the radio dosen't output to them, I'm hoping the tweeters are there also so it's just a case of taking the old radio out and putting the new one in. You may want to check this out with your car.

Hope this helps...

Re: re: upgrading radio

Cheers Dave - that was something I was wondering and hoping for. The bloke is coming to see me today so I'll have a look. It will be a right pain if I have to wire everything through, the CD changer will be bad enough. I guess your car was originally an import then? I'm trying to persuade the bloke that the simplicity of the current radio is why he should keep it....but I'm struggling to find any other positives with it!!

re: upgrading radio

Hi Gaz

The wiring for the cd changer may also be there, it is in mine, the end of the cable is wrapped in foam just next to the rear left(kerbside) speaker.

Re: re: upgrading radio

I know the autochanger wiring isn't there - I checked for that straight away cos I was going to nick it for my brother's bravo!! How strange that you have got the cables and the extra speakers....I'm not positive, but I would guess that your car did originally have the proper radio fitted and for some reason, at a later date, this was swapped with the crapper S spec one. I don't know why Fiat would have fitted an extra 4 speakers and given you the CD autochanger cable if they had fitted the radio which isn't compatible with these....I guess I'll soon find out when I take a look at the car later. Cheers.

Re: Re: re: upgrading radio

U were right Dave - the wiring for the speakers are present for the other speakers, there are no holders for the speakers and no autochanger cable but things are looking promising. Thanks mate.

Re: Re: Re: re: upgrading radio

This is what I need:

2 dashboard mounted speakers + holders
2 rear parcel shelf speakers + holders
A182H2 headunit + security code
MCD46 CD autochanger + cable from headunit to boot

Cheers.
