6x9 speakers - any recommendations??

Hi peeps...

I'm about to purchase some 6x9 speakers, just wondered if anyone has any good recommendations before I go ahead?

I've been looking at the Pioneer TS-E6995 speakers (300W MAX, 38mm Titanium dome midrange, 12mm tweeter) has anyone got these already, if so whats the sound quality like???

Any help would be nice!

Cheers!!

i've got those (the tse6995) they sound great, bit too powerful though and made the car cut out if you turned the bass up :) they really need an external amp (mine were off the internal on a sony minidisc head unit).

if only it hadn't all got stolen :( BUGGER! get a stealth shelf right away, just too tempting if they are on show.

alternative note though, will they fit in the front door? or would it muck the cross over bit up? or just a direct swap leaving all working?

How much have u got to spend?

I dont know of many good 6x9's, but a mate of mine purchased a pair of Sony 200W which cost £50 from most audio shops. I have to say, for £50 they produce sich a clear sound, alot of bass, and especially if you have an amp you will definately get the most out of the speakers. That is all i can advise, but for that price you cant go too wrong, and i promise they wont let you down. Its just a suggestion, but it all comes down to how much money you have to splash!!!

6x9's

I've got a set of the Pioneer TSE-6995's in my Bravo. Their good speakers, but you really need to amplify them properly. Their rated at 300watts peak power and i'm using a Pioneer amp putting out 100watts peak power on each channel which really isn't enough!, i've tried using my mates rockford fosgate 250.1 and they sound loads better with more power.

So basically as long as you can feed them enough power, yes they are very good speakers.
But be warned that by using 6x9's on the rear shelf, you'll destroy the sound stage of the car. Much better idea is to replace the standard rear speakers with a set of JBL 5x7's and replace the front speakers with a high quality set of components. Will sound much nicer!

Re: 6x9's

Hi si, can you give the names of any specific speakers that you would recommend for the front and for the rear. Thanks alot.

Re: 6x9's

Ben, Dave, Si, and errr...Patrick cheers for ur advice guys!!

Obviously money is a big factor, but I think I'm gonna pay a little bit extra and go with the TSE-6995's.

I've got two 250W 10" subs in the back at the moment running off a 450W amp. A mate of mine has kindly donated a 250W amp which will do for the 6x9's for the meantime, then I can always replace it if I feel the need. I'm trying to balance the sound out a bit better at the moment, so may well replace the standard rear speakers as you suggested Si, but by the sounds of things I don't think I'll need to...

Cheers for all your help people!

speakers

For the front speakers Alpine do a good set of components, SPR135A's their 13cm and have a power handling of 220watts (meaning they really need to be amped). They give fantastic vocals with the tweeters placed in the standard Fiat dash positions. Their expensive at £100-150. depending where you get them from, but if you cam amplify them you won't be dissapointed.
Another option are Kenwood KFC-P503's again a very powerful speaker, but they will really lift the sound stage out of the footwell. A bit cheaper at £65.
For real audio quality go for JL's but your looking at £360. just for a set of 5" components. If you can't quite afford that Focal are always a good bet.

As for the rears, JBL do a 5x7" that fits the standard location, but i'm not sure of the model name. They cost £50. and i've seen them in Halfords.

Funckle.

What about Rockford Fosgate?? Def worth a look. One of the more expensive makes of Audio but little out there can match the quality of any Rockford equipment.

Rob

Cheers for that Rob!!

Well I'll take a trip to Halfords on the weekend and test the Pioneers and the Rockfords out and see which I feel are the best, thanks for all your advice guys, much appreciated!!

I'll let you know how I get on...

Re: Re: 6x9 speakers - any recommendations??

Infinity......that's the make....now go buy.

nice one smith950

I am telling u that the best deal and the best 6*9 is the infinitys!!!!!!!

Bass Junckies in walsall are doing a deal £80!!

Ask anyone yourself they are slightly better than the pioneers

Allan Brown.

Re: nice one smith950

with components (such as the alpine mentioned) where do you put the x-over? or use the one already there, and just plug em straight into the current wires?

So far thinking of the alp's in the front and my pioneer 6x9 amp'ed in the back... good idea?

6x9?? Hell no :)

Man..why 6x9? Buy a subwoofer, that shall be ok ;) and some good speakrs for the front (like Magnat Stratos 213, if you don't have much money). That should kick ass :D

re: ben

With the Alpine's mentioned above they don't have a proper crossover, but a high pass filter. Their much smaller about the size of a matchbox. Mine just sit in the door and i've had no problems with the window hitting them as it goes down.

Just to let you know Alpine have just updated the SPR-135A with a new SPR-136A. I don't know what the difference is, just now £20. more expensive.

Also you can do a lot better than a Pioneer Amp, try something like a new Alpine V12 series or Rockford Fosgate.
Yet another also, I agree with the post above. You don't need 6x9's. Just some replacement speakers in the standard rear positions and a nice sub. 6x9's will destroy the sound stage (I get the feeling i've mentioned this before). i.e. it will sound like the vocals are coming from behind you when really you want them in front of you as if the band/artist was playing on the bonnet of the car. ahem.
And it sounds weird but 6x9's will also reduce the volume of your sub.

Re: re: ben

its cause i've already got the 6x9s and they cost me £90 :)

Ok, what about this:

My standard fit pioneer tse1795's in the back where the current ones are.
leave the current tweeters in.
put my 6x9s in the doors.
and a sub in the back?

would that work/fit?

thnx

speakers

In short-yes that would work, rembering you'll have to make an adaptor plate to fit the 6x9's in the front.

You might find if you leave the standard tweeters in the treble becomes a bit harsh.
You could disconnect the tweeters, but then you'll lose a lot of the sound up front. The 6x9's in the doors will be playing in the footwells unless you can angle them up the way.

If you use the standard wiring the 6x9's will have no treble to play as the Fiat wiring uses a high pass filter somewhere under the dash splitting the mid and treble signals to the tweeter and mid. Therefore if you plug your 6x9's into the standard wiring they'll not be getting a full signal.
You'll really need to amplify the 6x9's to get the full signal and make the most of their power handling. Underdriving a speaker (not sending it enough power) can really harm it.
Use a nice 4-channel amp and that way you can power the sub as well.

Re: speakers

Thanks for all that, so one last question :)

erm, i mean a few...

the adaptor plate, to make the speakers bigger i presume (what sizre are they at the moment) is it hard to do.

If the wiring already has a filter, won't that be good? then the 6x9 will only receive bass which is what they are good at and the tweeters will still take all the top end stuff?

Apart from that then, i;m all set :)
