im thinking of buying a Bravo, they do look nice.

I have heard they do get alot of problems and can be costly to fix. I heard that just to do a cambelt change the whole engine needs to be taken out ?

Please give me some advice as i do like them, but would like to have advice from an owner with experience !

Thanks

advice

Emma, the only model of Bravo that requires the engine out is the HGT with the 2litre 5 cylinder engine.

All other models can have it replaced at no great cost.
Just look on the arguments in the pages above, to see what goes wrong. The only major problem i am aware of is the cambelt tensioner on all the 4 cylinder engines is a little suspect and can fail early requiring a costly repair. I think that this has been cured on the later models, (T reg on). However if you change it regularly on the earlier models then there is no problem. As for other problems, they are relatively minor. Remember most makes of car have little niggles but then, where do you stop?? The bravo is a good car, I haver had an HGT for nearly 4 years and have only needed to replace a track rod end, other than general wear and tear items, like brake pads and discs, auxiliary belts, tyres etc. If you look around you can find some real bargains as the Bravo replacement has now come out. LIke i said have a look on some of the previous pages for the majority of problems, and then make your mind up!!

Good Luck

Good luck

Thats a good choice, make sure it has full service history.
We have tested that engine at work here and it lasted 1500 hours at full speed full throttle (equivalent to nearly 200,000miles)

We managed to blow it up, but it was our fault we over advance the timing and we caused pre-ignition melting a piston.

so meachanically if it has been looked after should give you no probs.

look out for sticking rear wiper, rear section of the exhaust tend to be a little corrosion prone and break.

good luck, let me know what you decide on.

whats the job???

I just have to know what you do?
Thrashing car engines to death on a test bench, sounds like a laugh!!!

MY JOB IS.........

Rob,

I am a spark plug development engineer looking after Italian and French regions so it is quite exciting. I work in a technical centre developing new spark plugs for new and existing applications. I get to see prototype engines, cars and we even had a prototype Ferrari 360 Modena here 2 years ago as well as a Maserati prototype. however we are currently testing a clio and 206 and golf! so we get the rough with the smooth. But generally interesting.
