Hi folks, I drive a Bravo Trofeo 16V and was two weeks on holidays with my old car. When I returned, the battery was low and I couldn't start my engine.
I went to the garage, but they didn't find anything that could be wrong with it. Has someone an idea what the problem could be???

Similar problem

My battery was going flat after 4 days without use so after much investigation I discovered the bootlight switch had broken. I never take the cover off the boot so didn't notice the light was staying on - silly huh!

Battery problems

Another possible cause, or at least something to think about, on my wife's Seicento we went away for the weekend and the Stereo front plate was left on which in turn meant the clock on the Radio was showing. This was enough to flatten the battery so it wouldnt start, and that was only left for a weekend. Also, are the Interior lights off with all the doors shut, its easy to switch them on manually and then forget to turn them off again.

The Obvious?

I know its an obvious answer, but perhaps the battery is old/faulty.
Other than that, there must be a current leak somewhere. As most circuits are routed through the ignition, the first place to look is at things that can operate without the ignition. Off the top of my head these are the radio (but normally turns off after 20mins) and courtesy lights (boot light, interior lights). There might be other things but I can't think of any. Did you leave a door open?

didn`d find anything

The battery is only 7 months old (the car as well) and there were neither doors open nor the radio was turned on. My Fiat garage checked up everything but they told me that there would be no mistake in the electric system and that everything is alright. They cannot explain themselves why the battery was low.

Now the garage installed a new battery in my Bravo and they told me to watch out the problem. But what may causes this problem??? I do not think that the digital clock in the radio causes this problem.

Battery

It could just have been a bad battery that couldn't hold its charge for very long. It can happen at any age

Have you tried connecting a multi-meter set to current in series (disconnect a batt. connection and place between the connector and the batt. terminal) and see what your current leakage is. it should be very low 0.01amp? I once had a car that had an alternator fault thet was drawing 3amps! that dumped a fully charged batt. to zero in 15 hours.

Faultly boot light aswell !!

I too have the "boot light staying on all the time and draining the battery" syndrome. How did you fix it ?
Cheers
Tom
