Just upgraded the alloys on my 1.8 HLX and sold the old alloys to someone else for their Brava. Only problem is when they get a puncture they're knackered because they've got the 14" spacesaver for the original steel rims. If not they'll have to buy one new! £££££££££££'s I reckon!

are the spacesavers safe? i binned the one i had in the boot and replaced it with a full sized wheel as i dont use the boot for anything but the occasional shopping bag i just dont trust something that looks like its come off a rev n rip scooter.

I used the spacesaver for about 15 miles...

Just to get me home and to go to krapfit to get the puncture fixed.
It's O.K but you are not supposed to do over 50 on them.

It depends on the aspect ratio

If the 15" alloys are fitted with lower profile tyres , which you would want to do or else the speedo will be inaccurate , then the 14" spacesaver will still be suitable.
I once had to use a spacesaver for a week while I waited on a new alloy and although they look crap I didn't have any problems other than having to keep the speed down and being aware when cornering that it's not going to have the same grip.

Thanks Dell. You're right! The 14" Spacesaver is actually bigger in circumference overall than the 15" due to the tyre profiles used. We don't need one after all. Everyone is right though. The spacesaver wheel is crap and I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw it. Why do these manafacturers bother? The amount of space they save is minimal anyway.

The best thing to do with space savers

is to get 4 of you together and put them on one car. Then **** about in the wet for an afternoon (in a safe area obviously!). We did it on an Alfa 156 V6 and had tremendous fun!

....is bin them and get a proper spare tyre. It's just another example of a cheapskate motor manufacturer taking the ****.
