My 97 brava has a slight rattling noise coming from the timing belt area.After reading some of the problems that this could cause i will be changing the belt and the tensioner. Can this work be carried out by a ordinary mechanic or is it a job for a fiat dealers.Thanks for any replies. KEITH

Come on give us a clue which one do you drive there are alot of diferent engines in the range all require special tools to do the job some more than others. But mostly you can change the belt and tensioner without the tools if you are very carefull.And be warned if you make a mistake it will be costly to fix ...

My car is a 1.6sx automatic with 32,000 on it

its probly the worst one to change of all except the hgt of course ,there is cam locking tools and a funny tool to retension the belt as well .As well as a DTI gauge and stand and an angular guage to set up the bottom end ,if your not very carfull this job can turn into a nightmare .I would leave it to a dealer ,it is possible to do without all the tools but the tensioner is very dificult to tension without the right tool.
