Hi Guys hope some one can help me with this
just coming upto end of warranty only had car two months noticed this rattling noise (sounds like lazy valve/wrong valve clearance to me)
booked in to dealers they say nothing wrong suprise suprise!! soon as engine is warm it goes away but sounds like it can only get worse
anyone any ideas?

Same prob

I've got a 1.6 16V Barvo which makes the same noise, no idea what it is yet. I'll let you know what the mechanic says....it's going in for a service soon and I'm going to get them to take a look at it. I'll let you know what happens.

Posible solution

I had same problem. When I changed fuel filter and plugs, went to highway, drove at 6000 rpm for about 10-15 min, then leave it for few minutes no on 1000 rpm before switching off.

Dont worry......

Somewhere in the Owners Manual that comes with the car it mentions that the engine rattles & sounds rough when cold. I can't remember what reason it gives exactly (some technical ********) but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

rattle&hum!

thanks for replies you guys to my original message ya probably right i'll have a look in the owners manual,it's just a bit worrying when the car is more or less brand new, whats it gonna sound like when its got 60k on the clock!!

regards pete mc
ps. the dealers have agreed to have another look at it under warranty on 5-5-00 so will let ya know the outcome

the dealers are just ***** footing around as you'd expect them to do really ! still i've got them to respond to it until i'm happy under warranty so we'll see what developes i'll let ya know thanks for your response

Service

got the car booked in for a service (eventually) so it's going in on the 7th June, earliest date they had available. I'll let you know what they say about the rattling. I know it isn't meant to sound like that because it didn't used to, I have a feeling it's something to do with the exhaust and as it heats up and expands the rattle stops. Just an idea.

Sound

the sound when the motor is cold is quite normal.
it s a hydraulic piece which all the gasolines engines have so don't worry
