Auto Italia

Brooklands Motorsport and Aviation Museum 2019

Show season is back upon us, beginning with Brooklands! Of course, FiatForum will be having a designated stand to show off our cars so if you'd like to be on the stand please add yourself as attending at the top so we know who to expect. Every member of FF is welcome to have their car on the stand we like to have as big a range as possible.

What is this event?

Auto Italia returns to Brooklands in 2019 on Saturday May 4th. This popular event has become the jewel in the crown for Italian car enthusiasts and in 2011 over 5000 spectators turned out to enjoy some wonderful cars in the spring sunshine. The combination of activities will once again include the demonstration of 50 specially selected cars on the Mercedes-Benz World test track and the opportunity for classic car owners to run up the famous test hill.

As you veteran attendees will know Brooklands is famous for its Hill Run (https://www.fiatforum.com/gallery/sh...y.php?cat=2996)

The FF Stand

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Don't be shy!

This is a great opportunity for newbies to meet fellow Fiat owners, socialise and talk about your pride and joys (if you want ). Make it the first of many Official Fiat Forum shows you attend for 2019. Come along, chill out on the stand, have a nosey at other members cars and enjoy a fantastic day out!

Last years photo's can be seen here: https://www.fiatforum.com/gallery/sh...y.php?cat=4177

We also are happy to announce that our friends at MultiECUScan have provided us with their latest MultiECUScan Multiplexed system, so we'll be offering a basic diagnosis service over at our Dr. FIAT table.

So if you've had any strange lights popping up on your dash, or you're getting error codes when you start up, be sure to book in and we'll give it the once over.

It's all Change!!!

The FiatForum will be having its stand around the Concorde and other aeroplanes this year with access via Merecdes-Benz World and over Vickers Bridge. This entrance will close at 10.00am, late comers will need to enter through the normal Brooklands Road entrance.

IMPORTANT

Due to the location (and gate) change, all cars going on the stand will now require a stand pass. These will be sent out to everyone who has marked themselves as attending a few days before the event, so if you want to park with us, MAKE SURE TO CLICK ABOVE! (See "How do I signup?")

Tickets

All details here including advance tickets and paying on the day.

This year it's an electronic ticket, so you will need to print the booking confirmation and bring it with you to the event.

How do I signup?

Well firstly EVERYONE IS WELCOME and indeed the more the merrier - there's just a few things we ask of you:
  1. Please click the "Add Me" link at the top of this thread, choosing how many +1s you will bring (if any)
  2. Fill in the Event Registration form found in your user control panel (we use this to try and plan a design a bit)
  3. Download the Stand Pass and remember to keep it displayed on your windscreen all day (so we know who is who!)

WHEN YOU ARRIVE... and have parked up, please come over to the marquee.

Where is it?

Re: AutoItalia - Brooklands 2018

We'd like to try and make things a bit different this year - the event doesn't change much so it would be nice to mix things up a bit.

Is there anything anyone would like us to look into - how can we make Brooklands even better? Answers on a postcard (to the bottom of this thread )

Re: AutoItalia - Brooklands 2018

Any hints if the chaos of recent years has been addressed.

Onsite building work had ruined exhibition space

And as for trying to actually drive in..

Could be GREAT again.

Re: AutoItalia - Brooklands 2019

As below, building work was a pain but appreciate it can't be helped. Getting in was a pain so streamlining that would be ace. Gonna drop my car on its arse and go in the low clearance gate to save time haha.

My only gripe was parking last year. I was one of the first in and it was CHAOTIC, seemd our space wasn't ready, I parked in "General Fiat" (actually offended ), and there was some honking great block down all one side of the banking. Felt like our space was a bit of an afterthought and tbf, didn't feel like the marshalls were all that helpful, surprise surprise. I saw a guy from here (no idea who you are, sorry!) having to move cones and stuff to set the area up. Just my two cents.

Are these suggestions you'll pass on to organisers or do we actually have some say?

I would like to see the Fiat Forum not stuffed up the end on the banking for a change. Somewhere nearer the main area/club house for a change. Ideally club locations should be rotated round each year.

I'm a disabled Blue Badge holder and being stranded far away up on the banking is a pain, a real pain! Why should the Alfas, Ferraris, etc. always get the prime spots?

Tbf we don't really get a choice. I've been going for years and we've always been tucked up there. I always get the impression that the fiatforum (or just perhaps the fiat brand) are viewed upon like the undesirable cousins that you feel you have to invite to your wedding so were asked to come but kept far away from the elite cars. The marshals are rude and just leave the team to try and organise then whinge when the cars start either encroaching on other areas or park to far up th banking. It's a huge site so I can't believe they haven't got room!

The only way we have of making the show for all to enjoy is to work together. Get the cars parked up in an orginised way and avoid large convoys
People just end up clogging the show grounds as the team try and find places for cars.

On that note we could do with some people who are willing to help out on that so if you got a club or a convoy going get in touch with an events team member so they can get you parked up as quick as possible to avoid sitting around waiting

Re: AutoItalia - Brooklands 2019

I will be the first to admit that meeting all peoples/club expectations is very difficult.

I remember one year stewards tried to split me (Driving my wife's 130TC) and her (driving her Barchetta) apart. We declined, (which really pissed them of). We come as a "package" and we want the flexibility to be close, look after our cars when one is absent for a loo or other attraction visit, etc. Also to share and exchange collective 47 years+ of knowledge with Fiat cars.

Small clubs don't face model placement/regulation/dictates as they just want members to show up and once attendees are in place a quick minor shuffle is dead easy to do.

Also there is an unintended loss in some cases. If we take our Strada 130TC and Barchetta when they are parked next to each other then I have extensive in depth technical and other knowledge of these beauties. I can't be in two places at once.

I/we don't attend these event just to plonk our cars on a location for view. I can walk the local railway/public car park to do similar and view whatever Italian set of wheels my be parked there.

I doubt there will ever be a perfect solution but knowledge of potential issues etc. can only but help.

PLEASE NOTE: I'm not suggesting/accusing the Fiat Forum/or any other club of deliberately segregating members and their vehicles but it so easy to see a Punto and plonk it there, a Stilo and plonk it there, a Croma ….. etc. Many Fiat/Italian car families don't have just Puntos, Bravos, Stilos, …… etc. they have a lovely variance I taste etc. but equally love and support all.

Larger well supported clubs need to be a little flexible in their placement approaches. To this end a Bravo driver (eg) should be directed to Bravo or mixed.

Re: AutoItalia - Brooklands 2019

The problem we have at Brooklands is we are used as the dumping ground for anyone in a FIAT (including members of the public who are nothing to do with anything).

At the other shows, it's possible to get an attendee list and build a stand plan (or at least get a rough idea) - whereas at Brooklands we just can't

I feel that is why we lose the "club stand" feel too, as a large proportion of the people there aren't on the forum, or possibly in any club at all!

I'm definitely coming to this. Would The Forum and Club be happy with me promoting my Mongol Rally adventure ?

Re: AutoItalia - Brooklands 2019

Ok people, as updated in the main post - if you want to be on the stand your MUST click "Add Me" to join the attendee list or you won't be issued a stand pass (and will need to park with the 'others - lol)

Not sure if things have changed but people on here used to think Mongol rally people were scum of the earth as they never brought the cars back so we lost a lot of classic fiats that Mongolian people could not maintain either so were scrapped.
Most doing the rally also had the cheek to take experiences out of the money they claim they were raising for charity too. So it was really just a free holiday.

Re: AutoItalia - Brooklands 2019

Thanks for your reply! I'm an enthusiast myself and would never leave my car behind. I know what most people think of this rally, unfortunately most of te competitors are not into cars at all, but some of them are, like me.
Can't seem to find this "add me" button, maybe in dumb
