EVENT
A 4x2-Friendly Yorkshire Weekend Off-Road 3! Pandarers & Friends, Mission: Yorkshire Dales.

WHEN
September 27th - A 100% tarmac drive in the Yorkshire Dales National Park
September 28th - A green laning day suitable for both 2 and 4 wheel drive vehicles

WHERE
Meet Point Directions (Masham Recreational Ground both days) Exiting the A1 at Junction 50 onto the A6055, taking the second exit (straight over) at the first roundabout after the slip road. 3 miles along the A6055, at the roundabout take the first exit onto the B6267 towards Masham. Stay on this road all the way until it ends at the junction onto the A6108. At this junction take a right turn towards Masham. One mile down the A6108 you will reach Masham Bridge over the River Ure, on the far side of the bridge on the left hand side is Masham Recreational Ground
(a grass field which looks nice) this is where we are meeting.
Alternatively if you are wanting to use a satnav or check the distance the local postcode is HG4 4DS - this will give you the same route (if you are relying on the postcode on the day please be aware that the meeting point is across the road from the destination!).

PEOPLE WHO MAY ATTEND
fiatforum.com members & friends only, this event has been organised for the Panda (classic) section, although members from the new Panda section are also invited but PLEASE PM ME FIRST BEFORE JOINING! LOWERED VEHICLES ARE NOT ADVISED TO COME OFF ROAD ON SUNDAY!

YOU WILL NEED
A Panda, a packed lunch (including flask of course), a passenger if you want and plenty of fuel!

Hello all,

I am organising this third little jaunt for us all into the Yorkshirey wilderness.
The plan is for two days worth of events to take place on the 27th & 28th of September (Saturday & Sunday), you are invited to attend
as much or as little as you like!

Saturday 27th September

Meet Point - Masham Recreational Ground (see directions)

Meet Time - Between 12:00 noon & 1:00pm (in view of departing at 1:00PM)

As some people are wanting to come up from afar and stay the night so they aren't doing a lot of driving on the Sunday, I am proposing an afternoon drive out on the Saturday into the heart of the Yorkshire dales (my doorstep) to take in some B roads and some lovely scenery. This is also open to all - i.e if you aren't wanting to join in with the green laning then this day will be great for you to join in the fun. The route planned for this day is roughly 40 miles and will consist of 100% Tarmac.
We will head out across the moor tops taking in the lovely scenery, bound for Pateley Bridge. We will then take a drive up the old Greenhow Hill, the former main road which is a 1 in 3 gradient in places. This road is fantastic and has a couple of brilliant hair-pin bends, some of the tightest around. At the top of old Greenhow is the disused Lead Mines, where we will stop to visit the Cold Stones Cut - an amazing man-made landmark with views for over 40 miles! After this we will be winding our way back to the start point via a few local reservoirs and along some brilliant driving roads.

In the evening:
We'll hit the town for a couple of drinks and maybe a bite to eat, depending on how many people are available.

Sunday 28th September

Meet Point - Masham Recreational Ground (see directions)

Meet Time - Between 10:30am & 11:30am (in view of departing at 11:30)

Before 10:30:
Want to join in with a spot of early morning off-roading? For an hour or so before we meet I will be venturing out down a 4x4-only green lane and some play time on the common - get up early and come along!

We're keeping it local again this time around, starting out by visiting a couple of small green lanes almost straight away after leaving the rec, and a ford, leading eventually back on to the Six Dales Trail which we visited parts of on the first Yorkshire weekend. These trails are different to the ones on our very first outing, but equally as enjoyable and relatively easy to drive. There are some nice climbs and puddle sections to keep everyone on their toes, along with amazing views all day it will be a lovely ride out in our cars. To end the day there will be a visit to another off-road playground, providing it's not too wet, different to the norm!

ADVISORY FOR SUNDAY

I have driven the track in 2wd and it is very much accessible, although there are rocks, some mud and puddles on the surface. There will be no rushing whilst we are up there the pace will be slow, steady and careful, by all means go at your own pace. There will be several stops along the route for checks and to help each other out over various sections. There is a section along the track where the 4x4 vehicles have the option to go a different way through trickier going - at your own risk.
As I am organising this event I am ultimately responsible for taking you on these byways - if we get any trouble along the way (not that we should) I am the one who will sort it out. I WILL NOT take anybody anywhere that they are not comfortable with, I also have no intention of causing damage to other people's vehicles. For the same reasons it's up to you guys to behave sensibly and stick to the trails, plus you need to tell me if you aren't happy with anything (we will discuss this more on the day).

Thanks for organising this again Andy :worship:

Work permitting I will be there both days - Lucy too (y)

I'll need a ride on sunday though don't think LVJ will be done by then :(

Anyone got a spare seat (on top of roof rack will be fine;)) for the day?

Yes indeed - thanks Andy for organising!

Just a note re accommodation: spoke to the Garden House B&B lady just now who said that sadly they will be closed during September, so probably one to take off the list. Cheers

David

PS John, we may have a spare seat. Just not sure in what car!

Thanks for the info David :) John, I may also have a spare seat for yourself and Lucy

Well I've optimistically got my name down but with another operation looming for Panda Mo it's all a bit up in the air until we get a date. :(

Great stuff Vern :)

It would be fantastic to see both of you again, but understandable if circumstances change. I hope everything goes well for Barbara
