EVENT
A 4x2-Friendly Panday off-road 2! Pandarers & Friends, Mission: Yorkshire Dales.

WHEN
April 12th - A 100% tarmac drive in the Yorkshire Dales National Park
April 13th - A green laning day suitable for both 2 and 4 wheel drive vehicles

WHERE
Meet Point Directions (Masham Recreational Ground both days) Exiting the A1 at Junction 50 onto the A6055, taking the second exit (straight over) at the first roundabout after the slip road. 3 miles along the A6055, at the roundabout take the first exit onto the B6267 towards Masham. Stay on this road all the way until it ends at the junction onto the A6108. At this junction take a right turn towards Masham. One mile down the A6108 you will reach Masham Bridge over the River Ure, on the far side of the bridge on the left hand side is Masham Recreational Ground
(a grass field which looks nice) this is where we are meeting.
Alternatively if you are wanting to use a satnav or check the distance the local postcode is HG4 4HQ - this will give you the same route (if you are relying on the postcode on the day please be aware that the meeting point is as you come into the village!).

PEOPLE WHO MAY ATTEND
fiatforum.com members & friends only, this event has been organised for the Panda (classic) section, although members from the new Panda section are also invited but PLEASE PM ME FIRST BEFORE JOINING! We can't have more than 16 cars BY LAW in an organised group on a green lane at once - Classic Pandas have first preference, if there are too many you may have to miss out. LOWERED VEHICLES ARE NOT ADVISED TO COME OFF ROAD ON SUNDAY!

YOU WILL NEED
A Panda, a packed lunch (including flask of course), a passenger if you want and plenty of fuel!

Hello all,

I am organising this second little jaunt for us all into the Yorkshirey wilderness. After the hit that was Panday 5, I felt it only right that we must do it all again!
The plan is for two days worth of events to take place on the 12th & 13th of April (Saturday & Sunday), you are invited to attend
as much or as little as you like!

Saturday 12th April

Meet Point - Masham Recreational Ground (see directions)

Meet Time - Between 12:00 noon & 1:00pm (in view of departing at 1:00PM)

As some people are wanting to come up from afar and stay the night so they aren't doing a lot of driving on the Sunday, I am proposing an afternoon drive out on the Saturday into the heart of the Yorkshire dales (my doorstep) to take in some B roads and some lovely scenery. This is also open to all - i.e if you aren't wanting to join in with the green laning then this day will be great for you to join in the fun. The route planned for this day is roughly 50 miles and will consist of 100% Tarmac.
We will head out deep into the Dales this time bound for Great Britain's highest pub - the Tan Hill Inn, 1732 feet above sea level! Amongst the fantastic B roads, en route we will be stopping to take in the "Buttertubs Pass". This geological anomaly is not only fascinating to see - the road along side was also made famous by a certain episode of Top Gear feature Jeremy Clarkson and a Sierra Cosworth. More will be revealed on the day. Whether the weather is good or bad, the scenery is spectacular in this part of the dales, and the driving is definite Panda territory!

Sunday 13th April

Meet Point - Masham Recreational Ground (see directions)

Meet Time - Between 10:30am & 11:30am (in view of departing at 11:30)

Last time we hit the local trails across Pately Bridge moor top, this time we are going back in time and sampling the Cam High Road - a section of un-metalled Roman road leading from Bainbridge to over 1000ft above sea level at it's peak looking down over Hawes and Semerwater. We will then head down dale and pick up Gilbert Road, another long section of green lane which takes us high up over the moorland back towards Aysgarth. After the lanes are complete, we will take to the tarmac and drive south back into Ripon heading to Sharow Common for a spot of muddy fun before the weekend is over!

Some pictures of High Cam & Gilbert Road...

...and the route map. Highlighted in RED is the 4x2-friendly route we will all be driving, highlighted in BLUE is a tougher 4x4 only section which anyone can have a go at when we get there depending on the height of the two rivers.

ADVISORY FOR SUNDAY

I have driven the track in 2wd and it is very much accessible, although there are rocks, some mud and puddles on the surface. There will be no rushing whilst we are up there the pace will be slow, steady and careful, by all means go at your own pace. There will be several stops along the route for checks and to help each other out over various sections. There is a section along the track where the 4x4 vehicles have the option to go a different way through trickier going - at your own risk.
As I am organising this event I am ultimately responsible for taking you on these byways - if we get any trouble along the way (not that we should) I am the one who will sort it out. I WILL NOT take anybody anywhere that they are not comfortable with, I also have no intention of causing damage to other people's vehicles. For the same reasons it's up to you guys to behave sensibly and stick to the trails, plus you need to tell me if you aren't happy with anything (we will discuss this more on the day).

Glad you chose this date as we've finally decided it's the only one we stand a chance of making.

Panda Mo is hoping to have recovered enough from her operation for this one, if not I have been given permission to come on my own. :)

Barbara also has another grandchild due on the 1st April so this too could dictate that she needs to stay at home.

Once again Oslo is the steed of choice for us. :slayer:

Thanks for organizing this again Andrew, I can think of no-one better for the job. :worship:

Just over an hour to get there from my house so will probs just drive up in the morning. Is this the entrance to the meeting point?

Edit: This is on the assumption that I'm not forced out by a Classic Pandarer ;)

That's the one, as soon as you come over the bridge it's the green bit on the left. All being well I will be there before the arrival time to meet and greet :)

All of this planning could be seriously messed up if we have any of the white stuff, as the places we are going on both days are obviously very high and well above what we call the 'snow line'. But fear not, if we really have to give up on plan A, there is an equally as interesting plan B :)

Just a quick update for all:-

If people are signing up and wanting to come but are worried about getting "kicked out" due to numbers please don't worry, we can run as many cars as we want on the green lanes on Sunday but if we have more than the allowed number we will split up into two groups with a gap in between. I have had a few questions about this.

ALSO if you have time, have a look at some of the action from the last event...

Day 1:- (Tarmac)

Day 2:- (4x2-friendly off-road)

Cheers (y)

Sorry Andy, just had to remove us from this one. (n)

I had confirmation last week that we're on a stand at 'The Restoration Show' at the NEC the same weekend. I'm responsible for three of the cars on the stand so have to be there.

Really rubbish timing as this is looking like a great event. Have fun Guys!

No worries at all Vern, all being well there will be another 4x4 weekend to come along to (y) hopefully we can catch up at another event this year, you'll have to let us know if you are doing the bus show again.

Yes, sorry Andy I'm definitely not able to make this due to the NEC show too. This only became clear a couple of days ago - next time though! (y)
