I have a 2.5L Ducato which only occasionally won't go into reverse.( It's a 5 speed box)
Like I said doesn't happen all the time. Any thoughts ?

I decided I'd better check the gearbox oil, I found a small dipstick above the gearbox. Is this for the gearbox or the diff ?

The only thing I can find that looks like a drain plug is on the diff.

So how are you supposed to
A) Check the gearbox oil level
B) Drain the gearbox oil
C) Fill the gearbox oil
Please help !

This is all I could find in the manual. Hope it helps

all versions

- Position the vehicle on a lift.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove engine shield.
- Undo the gearbox casing filler plug on the differential.
- Check that the level of the oil just touches the lower edge of the filler opening.
- If necessary, top up the oil in the gearbox casing via the filler opening.

Clean the filler cap.
- Tighten the filler cap to the recommended torque.
- Replace Engine shield.
- Lower the vehicle and remove it from the lift.

I Still have this problem. ..
It's a bit weird and I've learnt to live with it ( sort of )

It happens like this..

If I park the van on an incline or at any angle where the left front wheel is lower than the rest -It won't go into reverse gear.
So I just avoid parking like this.
But any ideas as to why this is happening or a fix would be gratefully received.
