Hi
I have just bought a motorhome based on Ducato 2500 D. It's manufacturing date is 1988 year.
Since this is the only diesel in our family, we have a lot of troubles and worries about driving technique :)
I decided to buy and fit tachometer for easier driving, but there are questions:
1. where should I connect the tacho since there's no ignition coil etc.?
Someone told me that some diesel cars have some special connection in the alternator which sounds some crazy for me
2. Is there any tacho-sensor or place to fit the sensor in the engine / gearbox / whatever?
Should I look for some ready made cable in current wiring for this kind of signal?
3. Do the ducatos (diesel) made this year had tachometers fitted? Maybe some de-lux version?
Best Regards

Hi Hubert

I can't help you in fitting your tacho. But I too have a 1988 Ducato motorhome which was born as a 2 litre petrol. We had her converted to diesel this summer as she ate fuel and the gearbox was shagged. We have no rev counter and I drove the guts out it during the summer. She maxxed out at 140 kph - not bad for a big beast!!!:D :D
Anyway our only non diesel is my non running Alfasud. They are the same as a petrol to drive except the engines don't rev as high. Max power usually has come in by 4000rpm. They have more torque than their petrol equivalents and so can pull more weight, they attack hills with more gusto! (y)
I used to love rev counters and always wanted one but for our motorhome I really couldn't be bothered. :p I have a feeling you are on the right track about the connection onto the alternator...I have some vague memory of our expired Xantia turbo diesel...;)

Hope you get sorted.
