Hi, just wondered if anyone had any clues on the cause of 3rd gear crunching when changing up/down, on a 2001 2.8d (non turbo) ducato. Does it quite a lot but sometimes ok, all other gears select fine and non crunching, dont know if it could be the synchro or maybe the gear selector cables? The clutch is quite high so maybe it could be this?

PS anyone knows where i could get a manual for the non turbo 2.8 (think its 1998-2002), all ones i can find seem to be the later turbo ones?
My 88 Duc started with 3rd too then second then fourth and finally 1st. 5th and reverse were the only quiet gears! So we bit the bullet and left her in as my Fiat dealer told me the synchromeshes go when they have been left lying up. Your box needs to be overhauled he told me. So I decided to convert to diesel and get a newsed engine and box. But guess what the dealer was wrong ( how unlike them ) the clutch was fried. Completely and utterly shagged. Apart from discovering much rust in the engine bay and a completely rotton engine mount the whole experience was almost a waste (except for going diesel )
Hope you don't have as long and painful an experience as I had.
