General 2.8 i.d.TD power upgrade

Does anyone know if it's possible to up the power of the pre-common rail 2.8 turbo engine? There are lots of options with the JTD but I can't find anything for the mechanically fuelled engine.

If so is it possible to do as a skilled home mechanic? I live in France and there is no chance of any of the Fiat dealers here doing anything like that so I'm left with the option of trying to do it myself or just leaving it as it is. As it's such a nice engine this isn't such a bad option but if upping the power just requires a couple of adjustments to boost pressure and fuelling then I'll do it myself.

I had my Ducato 2.8 i.d.TD from 1999 tuned four years ago. It went from 122 Hp to 138 Hp (professional test), from 18,8 to 15,4 second 0-100 Km/h (my own test). The price was about 670 Euro. My ECU box was taked out, disassembled and then connected to a computer and updated, and back in car.
The company that tuned my car exists no more, and was in Denmark, so thats not an option for you. But there must be companies somewhere that does it. Look more on internet, and maybe try call them even if your car is not on their list.
With this tuning i have not had problems with the vehicle inspection, the two times i had to do that. So it does NOT pollute to much.

No ecu on the idtd , there was a Scandanavian company that did upgraded fuel injectors though
