Got the dreaded air bag lamp warning. It happened suddenly whilst driving so unlikely it was low battery power that caused it. Fault code indicate 'Air bag module Internal Electronic Failure'.
Crash data cannot help as despite their web site indicating they have stock of the control modules, they do not and quote a back order of hundred +.

My local helpful Fiat garage also says no stock and vehicles in yard stored awaiting the module. He will investigate stocks in UK but holds out little hope.
What a situation to be in with MOT only a few months away. It looks like it will be vehicle off the road.

I think I'd be tempted to reprogram the BCM with MES or AlfaOBD to disable all the airbags and delete the SRS module from the network. As the SRS system won't be working anyway, you're not actually changing anything other than the ability of the BCM to detect the fault. You might possible end up with a flashing odometer, but that's not an MOT issue.

The airbag failure points are an airbag obviously missing or obviously disabled. Neither will be apparent to the tester in the absence of any warning lights or messages to the contrary.

The airbag warning light is only a reason for failure if it indicates a fault is present in the system, so as I read it there is no test to check that the airbag warning light is working, unlike the ABS and ESC warning lamps.

Make a backup of your current proxi file first, and it will then be an easy job to write it back later.

Hi rayc,

I've got the same Airbag fault alarm on my Fiat X250 2016. It just came on without any reason, definitely not flat battery or jump starting.

Diagnostics showed ECU fault. I got a new ECU from a Fiat dealer 100 miles away part number 468 592 96, which is a new version apparently.

The problem now is that the Fiat dealer near here can't do the Proxi- Alignment as the new ECU wont "talk to the Fiat system".

I'll probably have to try CrashData in Liverpool now to see if they can repair.

Good luck with yours.
Al.
