Hi everyone!

I am sort of in a desperate situation. Earlier this year my van (2007 ducato/relay/boxer 2.2hdi) failed the MOT due to the airbag lights being illuminated. My local garage was unable to connect to the ECU and diagnose the problem, so I decided to do some diagnosing myself.

Eventually I was able to locate the airbag ECU and noticed severe corrosion on the unit. Tested the unit, and it was completely dead.
Got my hand on a second hand unit (with matching numbers 1356791080), plugged it in and the one light is now flashing and the "airbag failure" message appears on the screen.

My local bodyshop told me that I needed to get the new unit cloned, so that it appears as the original ECU. I then got the unit cloned and refitted, but nothing changed.

I took the van to the dealer (it's labeled as a Citroen), who then performed a diagnosis (which they refused to give me a copy of btw:mad:!) but couldn't find anything useful...

I decided to get my own diagnosis software and hooked it up to the van, and everything points to the ECU. I then called the dealer and asked them about a new replacement part, but according to them the ECU model fitted in my vehicle is discontinued and they can't replace it. :bang: The knobhead then told me that the van is basically unrepairable

In sheer disbelief I decided to try my luck with Fiat. They confirmed that the part has been discontinued, but was unsure about whether they could replace it with a successor model. They have now sent an inquiry to Italy and I am awaiting their response.

Have anyone of you had this experience with the airbag ECU and/or a discontinued part?

Is it possible to replace the ECU with a second hand one, and does it need coding, cloning, proxy alignment etc.?

I am in desperate need of help. I don't want to give up on my van just yet!

Thanks in advance! :)

Just in case you haven't already done this .. it might be worth disconnecting the battery overnight to give everything time to clear

Speak to the people who cloned your replacement airbag ecu, they should know a lot about the system if they can clone ecu.
Crashdata on www may be worth talking too if reopened following cv19 shutdown.

Thanks for the tips.

I tried disconnecting the battery and leaving it for several days. Did nothing unfortunately.

Crashdata is closed, but I will try them when they re-open.

The guy who cloned my ECU was confident that the cloned unit is working perfectly, and that any fault probably lies in the BSI.
I tried doing a proxy alignment but wasn't able to for some reason.

I'm considering buying another second hand unit, not cloning it, and retry the proxy alignment.

Just a quick update for those who might have a similar issue.

I was able to locate a company in Poland that prepare and sell second hand units. After providing them with my original part number + the number of airbags and pretensioners in my van, they sent me a compatible unit.

Got the unit in the mail a few days ago, plugged it in and voilà! No more faults or light.

No need for proxy alignment or coding, just plug and play! :)

The company is called Teile Elektronik, but they only sell through ebay.
Unfortunately I cannot post URLs yet, so you have to search for teileelektronik on ebay.
