I lost pressure in my A/C system so I paid for a search to find the leak. Sadly the 20-year-old Condenser has a pinhole and is the first of what I hope is the last of the culprits in the air conditioning system failure. This is the first-ever failure of the system in all 20 years since new.

I have identified the part as 6455.T3 and they are everywhere on fleabay.

I have also seen that there are only 4 attachment screws, 2 Philips screws behind the trans frame above the radiator with access holes, and two 8mm pan head screws easily accessed at the bottom of the front of the radiator.

The tubing is attached to the condenser through 'blocks' on the right and left sides held together by 10mm bolts where inside I suspect the 'O' rings live. I haven't opened it up yet.

Okay, that's all I know so far. But;

1) I have read that there is refrigerant oil I should be filling into the new condenser before I install it. What oil and how much?

2) Are new 'O' rings necessary? Are they just normal 'O' rings or special ones?

3) Is there anything I am not covering here???

Thanks for any guidance as this is a first for me. I have replaced Compressors in the past, also pulley clutches but not Condensers!

I am feeling that A/C systems aren't very popular for self repairs?

Confirmed the condenser is enroute and will arrive Friday. I was hoping to collect all necessary parts and accessories (refrigerant oil, etc.) To get it in as fast as possible and have it recharged. A guest flies in on Friday for a three week road trip. I hope it will be a cool and comfortable ride. It's about 30° right now in northern Italy!

Condenser finally arrived. I will be replacing the old one this weekend

Is it necessary to add additional refrigerant oil into the condenser before sealing it all up?
