Hi, don't see this topic anywhere. Any thoughts on how to add aircon to a 2012 Ducato 35 camper conversion. Is it realistic? Is it a matter of taking one from a crashed or scrapped van? Is it easy eg. Does it use all the existing ventilation systems avoiding any internal work on the van? Is it possible to fit a Dometic unit and upgrade an alternator to run it while driving. Any thoughts welcome.

cant open that link just now but you seem to be suggesting the dash has to come out. So it doesn't use the existing ventilation system?

Had the same problem. As a hobby exercise fitted a 1000w AC true sin inverter under the passenger seat with heavy wires straight from the battery.
That gives us AC anywhere for the 800W microwave which works OK.
Then got the lowest power free standing Air con unit (compressor) and it plugs in.
Pipe out the hot air through a pipe out of the window.
Have used it while driving in very hot days and it takes the edge off...
When idle engine running, running the microwave, the van automatically raises revs to maintain 12V at the battery. OK for a ready meal etc.
At a campsite we generally use the site hook ups if we can.

Thanks Andydiver. I'm in Australia so it has to work well. winter temp here is mid 20's. My van is in Ireland. I"ll only bring it out if I can sort the ac problem. I know someone will say sell and buy, but I'd like to keep it and it is probably more economical to do so....ac problem excepted. Someone might have been through it already.

You definitely need properly fitted engine compressor cooling. I fugured the battery 12v solution would only cope with 9000 BTU unit and that's only just enough in uk hot days.
A factory fitted air con would be closer to 20000 BTU and would be much more efficient at cooling your cab area.
