Hi

I’m looking for a spare part for my van which I think is an air temperature sensor. Can anyone confirm that it is and if they know where I might be able to find a spare?

Photos attached, TIA

Someone has pointed me in the right direction, it’s fitted in the engine breather system. Thanks

If its fitted in the breater system, it could be an oil vapour heater.

Please see below for attached file relating to an Iveco 2.8JTD, from which the Fiat 2.8JTD is derived. Diagram on RHS of page. Pipe 4 leaves the oil vapour separator, and is described as discharging to atmosphere. On my Fiat 2.8JTD, this is not the case. On leaving the separator, fumes pass an oil vapour heater, and then via an NRV into the air inlet on engine side of filter.

The heater is powered by secondary injection services fuse, F11, on later engines. The heater can go short circuit, and be an obscure cause of fuse failure.

One cure is to disconnect the heater, and run without it. Apparently this will only cause a problem if operating in more northern lattitudes.

Hi again.

If it's any help, the oil vapour heater on my 2008 X250 measures about 10 ohms cold, which drops to about 8 ohms hot (1.5 amps at 12 volts). From what I have read, it's only really needed in very cold weather.

Thanks Both for the additional information “Communicator” you have described the issue I experience a couple of years ago very well. Fuse11 blew on trip to France and the van failed to restart after a short stop, I ended up at a local Fiat garage and their technician fixed the fault for me but I didn’t know what the cause was or how he fixed it until I found the disconnected sensor whilst doing another repair job recently.

As you have suggested ANTHONY489 the van appears to run ok without it but I thought it might be worth replacing before I sell the van (quite an expensive fix for something that doesn’t appear to be causing any issues though at just under £100)

Thanks again both.
