Re: positive battery pole and fuses X244 failure

Hi,

I have a 2006 x244 2,8jtd, and I am familiar with the part.

I have read an Italian report, of a cracked battery terminal clamp which is integral with the battery fuseboard. This, If I remember correctly, caused symptoms similar to yours.

It could be worth checking for such a crack. A second possibility is a partially stripped, M6 battery positive clamping bolt.

If you wish to investigate, you MUST first disconnect the battery negative terminal, and secure it so that it cannot spring back into contact. I use a thick plastic bag to shroud the disconnected negative clamp. Also if a motorhome, disconnect or disable any alternative means of charging the starter battery. e.g. solar and mains charging.

Looking at the fuseboard cover, there are two plastic release tabs passing upwards at the front of the cover. Press the tabs backwards and wriggle the cover upwards to remove.

With the cover removed, you may be to locate the problem. If not read on.

Under the cover are the unfused starter motor connection towards the vehicle RHS, and towards the rear, a large mega fuse for the alternator, and 3 x midi fuses. Access is tight. My preferred tools are 3/8" drive x 13mm socket for the M8 nuts (probably tight), and a 1/4" drive 8mm socket for the M5 nuts on the smaller midi fuses.

To remove the board, you will need remove the starter connection, and all nuts across the rear. Note the position of the connections to the midi fuses.

There remains the metal clip at the engine side of the battery, Carefully prise loose.

Good luck. Please report on your findings, for the benefit of others.

If a replacement part is needed, I have seen these on Ebay.

I was going to say ...I cannot wiggle mine at all.
You shouldn't be able to wiggle it....once it is connected properly.
Noted....a very strange setup!

The following two links could be interesting, but first examine your existing components.

Please note that on the much cheaper repair clamp, the sequence of stud sizes does not seem correct. Also on the Iveco part, the plastic moulding may be different, --- Rebuild on original base?

If it's only the battery clam that's faulty can you fit. A separate one and run a short lead from the clamp to the fuse box/battery fuse top thingy shown above
