Hi, MY ducato x244 ( year 2005), 2.8 jtd, has a problem with positive pole.
the reference of the part is 1339308080.
The thing is these days it has begun to get absolutely disconnected suddenly.I move a little the unit and it works again.I´ve tightened the pole screw thinking the problem will be solved but, after some hours of being stopped the vehicle,I´ve trie to start it and ,when I turn the key,all get disconnected,as if I haven´t battery.I move the part a litteland it goes again.
Somebody has an idea of wht to do,what nore checking?

Hi,

I have a 2006 x244 2,8jtd, and I am familiar with the part.

I have read an Italian report, of a cracked battery terminal clamp which is integral with the battery fuseboard. This, If I remember correctly, caused symptoms similar to yours.

It could be worth checking for such a crack. A second possibility is a partially stripped, M6 battery positive clamping bolt.

If you wish to investigate, you MUST first disconnect the battery negative terminal, and secure it so that it cannot spring back into contact. I use a thick plastic bag to shroud the disconnected negative clamp. Also if a motorhome, disconnect or disable any alternative means of charging the starter battery. e.g. solar and mains charging.

Looking at the fuseboard cover, there are two plastic release tabs passing upwards at the front of the cover. Press the tabs backwards and wriggle the cover upwards to remove.

With the cover removed, you may be to locate the problem. If not read on.

Under the cover are the unfused starter motor connection towards the vehicle RHS, and towards the rear, a large mega fuse for the alternator, and 3 x midi fuses. Access is tight. My preferred tools are 3/8" drive x 13mm socket for the M8 nuts (probably tight), and a 1/4" drive 8mm socket for the M5 nuts on the smaller midi fuses.

To remove the board, you will need remove the starter connection, and all nuts across the rear. Note the position of the connections to the midi fuses.

There remains the metal clip at the engine side of the battery, Carefully prise loose.

Good luck. Please report on your findings, for the benefit of others.

If a replacement part is needed, I have seen these on Ebay.

Thanks,I'll check like you say.
I've searched on Ebay the replacement but all are out of stock, so if you give me a link , it'll br appreciated.

I was going to say ...I cannot wiggle mine at all.
You shouldn't be able to wiggle it....once it is connected properly.
Noted....a very strange setup!

The following two links could be interesting, but first examine your existing components.

Please note that on the much cheaper repair clamp, the sequence of stud sizes does not seem correct. Also on the Iveco part, the plastic moulding may be different, --- Rebuild on original base?

Hi MKUser
I have the same 2.8 JTD 244
To answer this part of your question
"I move a little the unit and it works again.I´ve tightened the pole screw thinking the problem will be solved but, after some hours of being stopped the vehicle,I´ve trie to start it and ,when I turn the key,all get disconnected,as if I haven´t battery.I move the part a litteland it goes again."
The positive pole should not move, if it does then it is loose on the battery terminal.
I had the same problem after I had replaced the battery, what I found was that when I replaced the positive pole on the battery connector, I had not pushed it down enough, as it is a tight squeeze on top of the battery. It started the engine a few times, and then it was like another flat battery, as it had become loose

I removed the positive pole and forced open the steel connector with a screwdriver, I was then able to push it on the terminal a bit more, and tighten the steel clamp.
Using the PIC that Communicator had put up, may explain it a bit better
Will you let us all know if this was the problem

Well, in the end, after checking all the screws and fuses, I've detected a little oxide in the main clamp and sand it.I've tightened it well and , for the moment, the problem has been solved, I think.
Thanks every one for your help.

A smear of vaseline on the contact faces should help to prevent future problems.
