I’m looking to make a custom aluminium roof rack for our 2018 Fiat Ducato and have a question about how best to attach to the presented fixtures.

Does anyone know what the fixtures are exactly? It looks like it could be an M6 bolt up through the frame and welded in position with a cap on top? Can anyone confirm?

If it is, why did Fiat put the cap on it rather than just being able to attach to the thread?

Has anyone screwed the cap off to expose the thread?

Any pointers welcome.

The fix point isn't designed to take the load the feet spread the load each side of the fix point.

There is a guy on ebay selling mont blanc foot packs for peanuts at the moments for the older van, might also work / be adaptable for the fixpoints on the later van:
