Hi we have just got a ducato lunar A520 motorhome and wonder how to charge the leisure battery which is under the drivers seat with having to remove th seat.

I prefer either of the terms habitation battery, or service battery. Strictly a leisure battery is a type of battery designed to withstand deep dicharge cycles. I seem to be a lone voice in the wilderness as far as the UK is concerned.

As a long time motorhomer, I would expect any motorhome to be fitted with a mains powered charger, to charge the habitation battery from 240V mains when the vehicle is stationary. Preferably the same charger should also trickle charge the starter battery, but this is not always the case.

There should also be a split charge system, to connect the starter and habitation batteries in parallel when the engine is running, so that the habitation battery receives a charge from the vehicle alternator.

If the vehicle is fitted with solar panels, they would provide a third source of charging power, but would be of little use during winter in, for example, the North of Scotland.

I have a 5 year old Rollerteam T-590. It has an 85 ah leisure battery under the passenger seat.
It has a solar charger kit wired in and a mains charger.
The mains charger recently failed so I replaced it with the item below.
It has a master switch to isolate the battery.
The solar panel charges it nicely when off grid. The mains charger is awesome at keeping it charged, the solar tops it up nicely.
As far as I can tell, when the mains charger is connected, it triggers a relay in the leisure fuse panel that then charges the vehicle battery (it is a conditioning charger). The relays isolate batteries when there is a voltage imbalance to stop one discharging the other.

There will almost certainly be a method of recharging the battery, but how it is achieved may differ according to the converter, although if the vehicle is equipped with EHU it will most likely either have an electroblock control unit or a separate mains charger that can be switched to charge the battery.

You are probably best trying to find a Lunar motorhomes owners forum or group, where owners familiar with the brand should be able to advise you further, as it is not a function specific or common to the base vehicle.

Hi :)

Look at the terminals..

Is it one red cable and one black

Or several on each?

Plug onto mains hookup.. then see if charge meter is showing more power in it.. ;)

Seller didnt tell you?

Yes - find Lunar manuals.. or a forum .. thats probably going to be the safest solution

Hi, maybe he should have asked how to change the battery....is there a way of sliding the front seats right forward on their runners, there seems to be a stop to prevent this?

The question was answered as posed. If the OP mistyped his question then it is up to him to make the correction. However if he did want to CHANGE the battery without removing the seat, then the simple answer is probably no.

Hi. On my 2015 X290 front passenger seat, there are two 28mm bolts holding the front of the seat down. I removed these, pulled the seat slightly forward and then tilt it back on the angled rear mounts - I did not have to remove them. This then gave me limited access the the leisure battery [emoji106]
