I prefer either of the terms habitation battery, or service battery. Strictly a leisure battery is a type of battery designed to withstand deep dicharge cycles. I seem to be a lone voice in the wilderness as far as the UK is concerned.
As a long time motorhomer, I would expect any motorhome to be fitted with a mains powered charger, to charge the habitation battery from 240V mains when the vehicle is stationary. Preferably the same charger should also trickle charge the starter battery, but this is not always the case.
There should also be a split charge system, to connect the starter and habitation batteries in parallel when the engine is running, so that the habitation battery receives a charge from the vehicle alternator.
If the vehicle is fitted with solar panels, they would provide a third source of charging power, but would be of little use during winter in, for example, the North of Scotland.
