Hi.

I have a Ducato 30 100 multijet swb (56 plate)
Recently I noticed when indicating right the flasher on the dashboard flashes rapidly. When indicating left it flashes at normal speed.
There is a problem somewhere as despite both front indicators working correctly and the left rear working correctly, the right rear is a different story.
When indicating right, the right rear yellow bulb flashes dimly and BOTH rear reverse light bulbs flash dimly too. All bulbs on the vehicle work.
I am wondering if the whole problem could just be caused by a faulty bulb or is it something more serious.
I am considering changing all the bulbs on the rear right cluster to brand new ones to see if that resolves the problem.
Any ideas or comments would be most welcome.

Cheers

Hi

The rapid flashing is to warn you that a bulb has gone or that the flasher system isn't delivering the correct current.

The reversing lights coming on dimly is telling you that the earth connection to that cluster is faulty or missing, so the current is finding a path back through the reversing lights instead.

Check the cluster earth

Hi,

I have a fault with the indicators on my 14 plate motorhome. It started with just the n/s indicator flashing quickly. I decided to replace both bulbs and the clear lenses and I checked the cabling in the mirrors at the same time. I noted that both bulb holders have been replaced by a non Fiat type but look new. I fitted x2 new bulbs also which are clear rather than orange due to the lense being tinted orange. The up shot of all this is that both n/s & o/s indicators now flash fast. Arghh...?? The interesting thing is that I drove the motorhome some 200 miles once I picked it up a few weeks back and we had no issues..

Have you fitted the correct bulbs in the mirror housings? They can be 5W or 16W depending on the variant.

Yes they are both 5w bulbs, the only difference is that the new bulbs are clear and the old are orange.

Cheers Trevor

Yes, the point I'm making is that there are two versions as you have found. I can't remember which way round it is offhand, but the wattage requirements are I believe different between the amber and clear bulbs. So if the lenses were originally clear with orange bulbs and they have been swapped for lenses with the orange surround and clear bulbs, they may not be compatible. The BCM senses the circuit resistance and will assume an error if it is out of specification.

I'm not sure if that is what you have done, but presumably you haven't put clear bulbs into the clear type lenses, as you will have white repeater indicators instead of amber?

If your motorhome is a coachbuilt type, not a converted panel van, the Ducato handbook suggests that it will be fitted with 16W repeater units.

You say that you had no issues when you picked the van up. Have you changed the bulbs and repeater indicator units since that time? If so, it seems likely that you have fitted the wrong type.

All fixed. The wrong bulb type was fitted. I fitted the 5w bulbs which came with the new lenses and the original bulbs were 16w.. lesson learned!!
Thanks RS3100 for the info..
Trevor
