Hi; i'm trying to remove my seat to install a swivel base, but i'm not sure what size socket i need to get, it's smaller than my 7/16 and larger than my 15mm socket, does anyone know for sure so i can go buy one? cheers

Kieran,

1. Please read the sticky at the top of Ducato section home page.

2. Please check your post, as it does not make sense.

3. Seats are usually secured by bolts, which are screwed into captive nuts.

4. Why not measure the bolt head? If access is restricted, a paper rubbing of the head may help.

5. A possible head size is 18mm.

Yeah I was confused by "smaller than 7/16 and larger than 15mm" ..unless it's 7/16 whitworth ...I don't know what a 7/16 whitworth bolt is across the flats ...but surely all the bolts on a fiat are gonna be metric ? ... Look at this as a tool buying opportunity .....

to my surprise, there was a nut under the dash that was imperial!

everything else was metric!

You may want to Disconnect the battery first for seatbelts if playing around with seats.

I removed seats months ago. not at hand just now.
Might want a socket set. Sometimes more value to have a set. So far I have used 24,22,19,18,16,13,12.10 mm. Also need some Allen key sockets...big ones.

...where does it end hey?

lol...yes it was a warning....I think. Method to the madness!

Think that was the earth on the interior fuse block.
It was seriously torqued on tight! makes sense...but it was very tight for the size of the nut.

Getting that wiring harness nest away from the top strut mount was an exercise.

IceVovo,

It would seem that you have yet to replace the rubber band on your 2.8JTD, as it requires a 15mm socket for clamping the belt tensioner, and a 36mm socket for the crankshaft. These are mentioned in Freespirit's guide, which was my inspiration to tackle the job.

Do not rush out to buy an 18mm socket, as I found that there was not room for even the smallest of my 1/2" torque wrenches plus socket. I had to buy 3/8" versions.

The earth point under dash (near "A" pillar) was M8 with a 12mm nut. This annoyed me as it was neither ISO (International Standards Organisation), or the common German DIN (Deutsche Industrie Neormen) standard. The offending nut was replaced with a 13mm version.

As a general guide I am attaching my lookup table for spanner/thread sizes. The sizes in bold type are where the ISO and DIN standards differ. Most metric threads are from the coarse range, but Fiat do use metric fine threads.

You are correct about replacing the timing belt. I haven't done mine yet!
Never owned a vehicle before with a timing belt....
Seem to have an oil leak here somewhere near the belts...not sure where yet?

I will revisit that earth nut size.
There was an imperial in there somewhere! I just did this yesterday but job not complete as waiting on the bearing for the top strut mount.
But I will gladly check again.
It did make me stop as the nut was so sloppy with the nearest size metric. The imperial was perfect fit.

I also checked out the seat bolt/nut sizes for the OP.
18 mm seat bolt for front side .
19 mm or non-standard nut for seat at rear of seat on long stud.
Seemed a bit loose for 19 mm actually but too big for 18mm and needed deep socket, open ended or ring spanner.

Yeah, I left out some sizes. That front axle hub nut is pretty big. Using the 3/4 inch bar for that one. :)
