My motorhome is stuck quite a bit from home. The first sign of error was the fuel meter, turn signal and engine temperature meter stopped working. When I stopped the car it won't start again. I checked the fuse box in the glove compartment and no 1 was blown, it's for the instruments and turn signal. I tried to replace it but it blows right away.

Anyone who has an idea of the logic behind this? Or just a solution on how I can get the car home so I can do a more thorough research there.

Hi :)
So why does it not drive..?

1: does the motor rotate on the starter?

2: is it IMMOBILISED (key - lock symbol ) ?

I would get a jumper cable.. run it from
The battery negative to the motors block
( the original connection may be poor )

Tell us more ;)

No, not the usual problems. The starter was running and no immobilizer problem. It turned out to be a short circuit in the crankcase ventilation heater. That short circuit made fuse 1 blow, and then the motor would not start. Nut sure why, fuse 1 is for the instruments, but maybe the lifter pump was dead? Anyway, if this ever happens to someone else, try unplugging the crankcase ventilation electrical thing, it's a black blob with on the middle of a hose on the front side of the motor. Maybe it's not even there on your van, It could be a special cold climate add on.

This is the infamous oil vapour heater. It can cause lots of problems on more recent vehicles as well. On my 2.8JTD the heater it shares F11 with the instrument panel, and if I had an EGR valve and mass airflow sensor, they would also be disabled.

The new one is 49€ at Axel Augustin. I would put up a direct link here if I could but the site won't let me do that.

You should be OK with the heater unplugged with ambient temperatures above zero C, but a Swedish winter could be a different matter. This should give you time to see if available for lower price.

Yes, I know. I'm driving around unplugged since monday. 49 is cheap and I'm about to order some other stuff from Axel anyway. It was only meant as a tip for others getting the same problem.

Did the replacement of this oil vapour heater solve the problem?
It's possible that I have the same problem.

Well today i disconnected it and drove a little but this doesn't solve the problem, fuse blew again.
Previous test was disconnecting reverse switch but that didn't solve it either.

Any ideas?

Well, the dashboard is starting to look like a storm passed by.
I found signs of mice under the dash so probably they chewed something. I’m hoping to find something.

Ok, I think it is solved. Dash was looking like this :eek:;

I have found a few damaged wires by mice under the dash but they where probably not the cause.

In the engine bay found a damaged wire in the wiring harnas, there was a split of the harnas and wire was rubbing against metal bracket.
I think it was wire to temp cooling water.

Been driving a few days and fuse did not blow anymore.

Something else happening now; glow light flickering while driving and i hear relais in engine bay just above starterbattery clicking.
Any ideas where to look for this issue?
