Hello,

I´m looking for some info about differences in JTD engines, especialy 2.3 JTD.
I have 2006 ducato - eu4 with bad block and (valve drop inside). Can I use block or head from pre 2006 (eu3)? They are much cheaper here.

Thanks !

quick answer ...

I wouldn't expect so.

2.3 is a different size to 2.8.

I would expect the bore diameter to be different.
Then the head and valves expected to be different.

This is just a experienced guess.

However...let us all know from your research.

Or you thnking of a complete engine swap?

I think he means an older euro 3 emissions version 2.8 rather then the 2.3 engine

That was not how I read the OP post.

OP says they have bad block and valve drop. eu4 is 2.3 JTD.

They says they is looking at eu3 Pre2006.
That is the 2.8 JTD.
I wasn't aware the 2.3JTD came out with eu3?... ( unsure of this....)

They can probably get the 2.8JTD engine a lot cheaper than the 2.3 JTD.
Would have to do the engine swap mod ... if not too hard?
Would not then have all the EGR issues with the 2.3 then.

Need Vres to clarify !

Is there a 2.3l eu3 version of that engine?
I don't have the 2.3l engine...

Of course...anything is possible with time and money....

Let us all know.

I have 2.3JTD in ducato wich have broken exhaust valve. So there will be probably big damage on the cylinder wall. I´m going to repair the head, but I´m not sure if I can save the block (engine is not opened yet).
I do not want to swap 2.8.

So I´m wondering if I can (in worst scenario) use 2.8 block. I don´t know how bad my actual block is and if it´s possible to change only sleeve (does 2.3JTD have sleeves ?). So in the end I´m looking to cheapest way to restore my engine.

Thanks for your answers guys.

Hi you may not be able to repair head if valve smashing around inside cylinder has damaged head as well as piston and possibly cylinder bore.

It is likely to be cheaper to fit a complete used engine.

I can buy used head or repair my if it will be possible. Head is not the main problem.

I will buy new piston, rod etc. but I need to have good block. And that´s the problem. Used engines here are like 400+km with questionable condition and extreme price regard to price of the whole car.

PS. I cannot load eper. Is there anything similar ?

Google fiatdalys
They have what looks like peer online

Understand what you say about high miles used engines.
Where are you located? Your profile says UK.
How many miles on your engine?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the valve head smashed into a piston and got stuck in piston. That way your cylinder bore could be ok(-:

I was not able to find block oem number on fiatdalys, that was the reason why I created this thread.

Along wiki there was a 2.3JTD 81kw 2002-2006 in ducato. Are they same ? This 2002-2006 with 2006- ? There is 7kw difference. It can be only soft.

From my CD copy of eLearn which relates to x244 versions, the 2.3JTD engine has a bore of 88mm and a stroke of 94mm. The injectors are described as electromagnetic.

I am wondering if the engine fitted to x250s is multijet. If so that would infer piezo injectors, which may require a different cylinder head.

If replacing a single connecting rod and piston, please make sure that the weights are identical to the remaining assemblies, otherwise the engine could be unbalanced.

Perhaps the above is of some help?
