My vans ducato x250 dipped lights both come on then go off some time 30 secs others less headlights are fine. Has anyone had this problem fixed ? Or know of any relay locations as I think I can hear a clik when they go off

I'd suggest you download the "Fiat Ducato 1st_X250_Training Manual.pdf" from the download section on the forum, link here:

https://www.fiatforum.com/downloads.php?do=download&downloadid=478

Page 120 onwards shows that the LH/RH dipped beams are separately fused, but appear to be controlled by a single "contactor" (I'm reading relay) at T01 in the underdash fuse/relay box.

Well already had the download so checked relay today and found all to be ok ?
Until I started the engine then no dipped lights working

Can you confirm that with the ignition ON that the dipped beams work ok but go out if the engine is started as that is how I understand your last post?

I have attached the dipped beam operation and wiring information. The relay within the dash fuse box is energised from a negative going signal, i.e battery 0V, from the Body Computer so that is where to start. Is the relay getting the signal? If you remove the relay and short out pins 30 to 87 and put it back in do the lights remain ON?

Ok tried that and dipped lights came on when I replaced relay with ign off and stayed on with engine running

Then remove the link across the relay and monitor pin 86 with the negative lead of a multimeter set to measure DC volts with the positive lead connected to battery positive. You can connect it to the relay with a thin wire to allow the relay to be reseated.

Pin 86 should be driven negative from the Body Control Module when the dipped beam is ON. What does the meter show a) when ignition is on with dipped beam selected and engine not running? What happens when the engine is started?

It can be helpful when doing this sort of testing to have an extension socket with test contacts that allows the relay to be extended out of the socket whilst testing. An example of a kit that does this is the Lilse 56810 relay test Set. Most auto electricians build their own by butchering a relay and soldering extension wires and a relay holder to the butchered relay base.

Pin 86 is the 'driver' contact of the relay and is taken to battery negative by the Body Computer when the dipped beams are selected. A multimeter set to DC volts with the positive lead connected to battery positive should read the battery voltage when the negative lead is connected to pin 86 and dipped beams are selected with ignition ON.
From you fault description that the dipped beams work with ignition ON but engine not running, pin 86 must be going negative for the relay to operate.

An auto electrician should be easily able to determine the problem with the circuit I provided. Something must be happening when the engine is started that interferes with the relay operation.

What happens if you connect pin 86 to battery negative with the ignition ON but lamps NOT switched ON?

Well traced this back to Body Control Module any suggestions as to a supplier without mentioning main dealer would be appreciated

Dirty switchgear first problem I had. Take the shroud off around the steering column, put newspaper over the floor and peddles. Flood the inside of switch with wd40/ gt85 or something better if you have it.
Good luck.
