Hi all I have just replaced the wiper motor on a 2005 ducato but when I turn the wipers off they don’t return to the correct position what am I doing wrong?

Hi, Just a thought, would you not have to put the motor through a sweep of the windscreen and then fit the blades when it's stopped.

Motor was already removed when I got the van so I fitted the new motor and when I turned it on the wipers stopped upright when turned off. I have put it through a swipe the disconnected the wipers from the motor and I’ll try again

Is it also likely to be an issue with a RHD or LHD spec motor and you have the wrong one? Not sure if they are different, but they are on some vehicles made for both markets.

I remember fitting a new motor to a wee van I had, on the first start up the wipers were all over the bonnet.. What a fanny about I had to get them in the correct place, I remember they were not exact but near enough when I finished. I became very proficient in dissembling & reassembling everything with the wipers & it took me believe it or not over two hours to get the job done. For me it was just a case of try & error.

Could you have got the linkage on wrong?
You might find photos of wiper and linkage on ebay.
Incidentally, Ducato wiper motors have a thermal cut out switch which sometimes cuts out when it shouldn't. If you undo the 2 screws holding on the motor casing you can see it on the brush plate. You could short it out, just be aware the motor could then fuse or burn out if you switched the wipers on when they were stuck down by ice or snow.
