Hi,

This is my first post, I have searched to find an answer but I can't find one.

I have a motorhome based on a 2013 2.3 150 multijet Ducato. Last week the engine cut out on the motorway and would not run. The engine does start for about a second and then stops. If you start it with the accelerator full on it will rev to 4000 rpm then stop.

When the rescue guy came out the van had a fault code for the fuel pressure rail sensor, he cleared the fault and it has not returned.

I have changed the fuel rail sensor and the fault is the same. I have also checked the fuel and changed the fuel filter.

I have the Multiscan diagnostics software and I can see that the fuel tank pump is running and the relay is operating. The fuel rail pressure sensor shows around 28bar before starting and goes up to 800+ bar (for a millisecond) as the engine starts. The fuel regulator changes from 60% down to about 9.99% the pressure drops and the engine stalls. No fault codes are stored.

Logic says that it is not the high-pressure pump that has failed as the pressure is there. Could it be the fuel regulator?

Finally, I have experienced similar symptoms before on a ford transit and that was a stuck EGR valve, or am I barking up the wrong tree.

I hope someone of you can help me...

Thanks for the welcome.

The engine had been running for about 30 minutes and I was driving at a steady 60 mph on the motorway. I would say the air temp was around 10c and the engine was at normal running temp.

The vehicle is a Hymer B598 and weighs around 4000Kg. It is an automatic.

I was overtaking a truck on an uphill section of road so I was at max throttle. The vehicle lost power and the dashboard reported: "Check Engine". I moved over to the shoulder and the engine stalled as I stopped. When trying to restart the engine started and then shut down after about 1 second. There were no noises or smoke.

There were two error codes, one was turbo intake pressure low and the other was fuel rail pressure sensor. I did not see the codes as the mechanic from the breakdown company read them and cleared them. Once cleared the codes have not returned. The mechanic thought that the turbo error was caused by the engine stall.

That is all really.

Try cleaning the pressure regulatot or swaping it with a good one if u can find one. Most of the times it gets stuck

I have taken out the regulator today and also ordered a new one.

The van did run today for about 20 minutes until I turned the engine off. Whilst running it came up with this error code:

P1563-62 current absorbed check from MPROP

It is now the same again.

Might sound crazy but the electric powered hab' step might be the problem, if yours has one of course. Caught me out once.
