Hi, I have a 1997 ducato 230, 2.5tdi the keycode light is staying on and will not start. Where is the immobiliser fitted on the vehicle?. I only have one black key at the moment and want to have the unit reprogramed or overridden to have more keys.

Have you tested the chip?

Unfortunately.. its better to get the vehicle to the place that is registering all your new keys.

Some are mobile though.

I owned a 1998 Ducato which already had the immobiliser disabled and replaced by an aftermarket alarm. My understanding is that the immobiliser on this model frequently gives trouble and is 'easily' bypassed (i.e. 'easily' in comparison to later models!)

I'n not going to detail the mod, but the procedure is described elsewhere on the internet and I believe also may be somewhere on this forum

It’s a common problem on the Ducato (Peugeot Boxer/Citroen Relay)
The immobiliser unit (black/yellow or off white box on later models made by Delphi below steering column) becomes corrupted.
To fix it you you can replace the immobiliser unit/ have it reset to as new then reprogram the keys. Or as I tend to do (normally because I have just the parts rather than the complete van) Reset the engine ecu and manually rewrite the immobiliser with new codes and keys. Then just plug it all back in and your away.

If you wanted to completely remove the immobiliser on the earlier vans it can be done by modifying the fuel solenoid which has been covered on this forum previously which should be applicable to yours being a 1997 vehicle. Later vans it has to be done by reprogramming the engine ecu to remove the immobiliser function. Obviously doing this has repercussions regarding your insurance.
