I bought a 2001 2.8jtd where the tensioner had broken. One valve was smashed into the piston and head. All other valves were bent. Replaced the engine.

Hi ToRq
Heard from Garage today. doesn't look hopeful but engine was running normally as I switched off, last 100 meters was gentle uphil. There had been no really bad noises at all for the last 1/2 mle. Garage say they used a Bar to turn the engine and they was no compression. So watch this space. Am going to Garage 100 miles tomorrow.
Thanks for Your post. Seasons greeting

hi. i have done a little investigating on this subject and it would appear the only 2.5 normally aspperated engine of this period used solely for the Fiat 94----98 was the Iveco 8valve indirect injection the same engine was used for same period as a turbo charged version. so if poster is looking for replacement engine this info may help. or certain engine parts may be sourced from axel-augustine .de (google it ) Fiat profesional section. good luck.
