Hi all, first time for me here so please be gentle!

im the 'proud' owner of a ducato 1995 1.9td in the disguise of a granduca motorhome. the engine is fiats own 1.9td
put it in to have the cam belt changed, and never been right since. took it back and its been re-timed, alas, worse than before.

can anyone help with possible timing marks / points? ive scoured the internet looking for diagrams, the only one I can find shows all timing marks pointing to 12, except of the td which shows the cam at approx. 1 oclock

if all points are set on 12 oclock it runs as sick as a piggy, and certainly a pig to start. set the cam to 1 oclock, it locks up totally.

I need to get the wee beastie out of this garage and back to the loving bosom of home

please please, any ideas!

Hi, I too have a 1.9td Ducato by Granduca 1996. I have had no success whatsoever finding technical information in published form. I don,t have a direct answer to your problem. It appears your garage has not dealt with this particular engine before. My advice would be to search out a Fiat dealership and ask for their help. Maybe they will have an older, pre computer trained, mechanic who knows what he's doing. All the Best, Ian

cheers ian, im afraid ive done that. toured the fiat garages locally, got directed to the main fiat commercial workshop dealing with vans. spoke to desk jockey who allowed me into the workshop. spoke to all the fitters present, non of which had any idea what it might be, no manuals of older models are now kept at these dealerships.

hi denny if you go to TalbotOC I think you will find loads of information from owners of that forum I think you will have to join to post but loads of info on the 1.9d. I seem to recall someone with a 1.9 with slmilar problem the number of teeth on belt was correct but the depth of the teeth was not but I may be confused with the 2.5. anyway go to the forum I have suggested. incidently where abouts are you==============. done a bit more digging you should have the 230A3000 engine engine numbers up to 1723290 have a different timing set up to engines starting from 1723291 search posting from Freespirit posted 11/05/2010 that posting carries an attachment of the timing set up. hope that helps

Just had quick skimp over your thread and wondering if internet info I found was any good. Try typing in Replace-Timing-Belt.com. then select Ducato via category. Engine number 1723291-. Nice pictures of your belt, settings to cam, pump and crank wheels. Even some angular settings, didn't look too close at this, maybe a pump adjustment info. Must remember this for quick reference..

Hi jontee and Gogg thanks for the replies. The problem is this info is what I have managed to find for the "garage" that they couldn't find. They've timed to these marks , see first original thread start. I will dig out my engine number from the original log book and see what it is. Jontee I'm located in North Kent.

Hi guys just looked at reg doc. Engine No 1593322 ..doesn't seem anywhere near those numbers for timing details. It's all a bit of a mystery!
1st reg 1/9/1995 can't check actual number cos it's still in the garage!

it would appear that a 2006--8-- 2.00 litre Suzuki engine 300-92920 has that number 1593322 which is for the sx4.. go to (engicomo.com ) the mystery deepens

I think the garage has had my ol girl long enough. Going to find someone to get her done, even if I have to tow her from there! More next week once I've "spoken" to them

Back to basics is needed i think find tdc by removing rocker cover to see if the camshaft has a slot and no 1cylinder valves are closed and check marks on bottom end for marks maybe flywheel side also just a thought hope it helps

We'll my ol girl is home. The garage had got it going so I got it out of there quick. To enable it to run they've set the pump timing at approx 1 o/clock not 12 as stated. Free spirit.. I'm not at home at present, we've got aging parents problems. As soon as it all settled down I'll sort vin out and let you know. Thanks for all your help guys it's not solved but at least it's home. D

Yo tengo un motor Fiat 2500 TD del año 1990. Y esta siendo reparado totalmente. La caja de cambio me gotea aceite, a ver su tiene solución. Saludos

Hi guys, well after dealing with aged parents, got to the nitty gritty of the engine. Had the head removed. Scoring to the bores, whatever they done. It's final. Been offered a perguoet 2.0 hdi engine and g/box. Any ideas if it will fit,and what complications? I'm looking at putting a fiat engine back in, just trying to look at all options. And help/ ideas would be gratefully received.

I have a caravan on the 1993 TD10 chassis which is effectively the same and have changed the cam belt twice. The timing marks are none too clear but they do exist. On one occasion I got the timing 1 tooth retarded on the camwheel and found it would still run although down on power and noisily. Whenever changing this belt you should turn over the engine with a long bar at least 2 revolutions of the crankshaft to make sure there is piston to valve clearance, before cranking with the starter motor. Getting the timing more than 1 tooth out may cause contact and that will cause damage to valves and pistons. It is important to fit the new belt with the slack on the tension pulley side and the other runs straight and taut, otherwise you will move something when re-tensioning things and you could end up a tooth out when you think you were observing the timing marks.
