Hi All,

For some time now my Ducato based Motorhome has suffered from a nasty squeak. It only seems to manifest its self during hot dry weather. My wife thinks it emanates from the roof area and as a result I have lubricated anything up there that could conceivably rub. I feel it comes from underneath. It is louder when we are negotiating right hand bends so I feel it is suspension based. I have lubricated everything under there with spray grease or silicone based rubber grease as appropriate and I have replaced the plastic washers within the leaf springs with PTFE washers, all to no effect. Has anyone any ideas how to solve what is a very annoying problem.

Yours Harry

Look at those spring clips in the oven door where they meet meet fixed posts in the oven body. If one or both are missing or fractured the sqeak is awful and hard to "place" when driving. Replacement clips are the only cure.

If your motorhome is a van conversion, then do rubber-lube the rear door seals. They can move at different rates on bends and cause hard to find squeaks.

If the squeak disappears during wet weather it is possibly coming from the rear spring bushes. I appreciate that you have greased these but this may not have penetrated in far enough. I have successfully 'painted' these bushes with brake fluid, not a permanent cure, replacement with updated bushes is necessary for this, but will last for a year or so.

Thanks Anthony. Wonderful article. I shall try that suggested by Crossingkeeper first as it is much simpler to do and will help to confirm, or otherwise, the cause of the noise. However I have made a print out of your article for future reference.

As for the oven clips, I have a very fussy wife and have upgraded the oven twice with no effect on the squeak. But thanks anyway.

Thought I had better update to those kind people who bothered to suggest possible remedies to my squeak. The weather, hereabouts, is such that the squeak is unlikely to manifest its self from now until the spring. As a result I shall likely be silent on the subject until then.

ive got mh with alko chassis fiat it was checked last week and found that the bolts that hold alko chassis to main front chassis were not tight could be that

Guess what? The weather turned warm and dry and I had a 280mile each way trip to do. On the way out no squeak, heaven, but on the way back, towards the end a different squeak, higher pitched but a similar metre so I shall be under there with a spray bottle and brake fluid, renewed faith and a tarpaulin to protect the drive and soak everything bar the brakes with the stuff. If it returns, after that I shall get stuck into Anthony489's solution. Oh we shall beat you yet you nasty little squeak!!!

Any suggestions for good lube (anti squeak) that does not act as paint stripper nor a rubber rotter or any other problem.

Harry

I'd try silicone spray. Penetrates well. Like all lubes it doesn't last indefinitely.

Thanks all of you, most helpful. Silicone spray grease it shall be, then. Best buy for 3 in 1 spray silicone that I can find is Halfords, would you believe. £6 when many others are charging £8. I'll keep you all posted as to the results. Harry
