Hi all,
I have a 2000 Ducato 2.8 IDTD. Motorhome.
Is it possible to fit a later gearbox to this engine.
This engine is bullet proof , its only done 73000 regularly serviced miles and goes well. Its the gearbox with the terrible 5th gear that's the problem, the gear was changed twice by a garage before i bought it and now its started jumping out of gear i don't suppose it will be long before it goes completely. The previous owner did let me know of the gear problem and he was aware of the increased oil (3Lt) that was used and not using it before warming up and not laboring it etc:.The drain scuttle fix is there and no water in gearbox.
Has anyone succeeded in changing this terribly designed gearbox, having a drip feed oil supply seems ridiculous.
Any help appreciated.
Mick.

I think some of the last of the idtds built had MLGU box and hydraulic clutch so 2.8 jtd MLGU box might fit but youd probably need to change to hydraulic clutch and change cables etc

Hi Corcai,
Thanks for the reply, I have now got some information to get me started, will post if I get lucky.
Thanks again
Mick.

Hi Mickr, I’ve the exact same problem with my poor design “strapped on” 5th gear dropping out and now left with only 4 gears. Mine is a 1994 - 2001 2.5JTD but I’m wondering if your solution would work for me too. Did you find out if there was a gear box designed with 5 gears that fits yours?
