Hell All,
My Fiat Ducato 2.8 LTD (1999) Motohome is completely dead power wise.
The battery is reading 12.6 and so are the leads.
I've check the earth connection.

I suspect I may have blown the 175amp Protection Fuse :-(

I have checked all the other fuses and they are all OK.

I have had the battery off several times (not an easy task), but can't locate the fuse. The manual says its between the Battery and the Power Zone.

I can't find a diagram for the year and Model.

Is anyone able to advise please?

Many thanks,
Cheryl

If you have breakdown cover then I would give them a call. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can do the trick for you. Normally big fuses are really close to the battery. Also have you fitted a new battery? Does it need one?

Hi Yorkshire007, Thanks for your reply. Sadly, I don't have Home Start. I've had the battery out a couple of times and cant see the fuse. The battery is holding it's charge, so haven't fitted a new one yet. The Positive lead is a bit loose, but lead to lead reads 12.6V. If it's not the fuse, I will look at replacing the positive leads.

Many thanks,
Cheryl

Do you hear a click on trying to start. Is power getting to starter coil..

Hi Goggs,,
Thanks for your reply. Good thought, but there is no sound at all when I turn the key, no lights, no cab light, even the hazard warning lights don't work.

Many thanks,
Cheryl

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the tip. I'm off to try it now.
I did try negative to front of the body, but nothing happened.
It may not have been a good earth connection.

Fingers crossed.
Many thanks,
Cheryl

Ahhh so in other words there is no power going out of battery to everything...Anyone got an engine wiring diagram. Should be easy to fault that. Well as long as its not Immobiliser/alarm.

...I can't at the moment get access to the (older) Fiat manuals, but in models slightly newer than yours, the high-value fuses were in the "distribution" box that attached directly to the battery positive terminal.

They would have been pretty obvious, however, if you'd removed the battery a few times, as you say you have, so maybe not on the earlier models.

Immobiliser theft devise seems to come up ofter in your case, ending in having to bypass it permanently. Did you say you had tried both key fobs to open and both keys in ignition barrel. Someone even said they found out they couldn't get it to start cos there car key was on same key ring...Think of a Coil for that...Very interesting..

Hello All,
Thanks for all your posts.
I was offline all day yesterday, but had the battery on charge.

Re Immobiliser, one is fitted. keypad lights up whe I press the button, but doesn't open the door, and no lights I=on dash.

I only have one ignition key for the vehicle. All keys on a separate ring. :)

Re: Location of Fuse = there is green box, not far fro the battery, and a black one. I need to get the steps to see what's in the black one.. I can't get the green one to open.

Re: ManUal that would be great as all it says in owners one is betw2een the battery and the power node.

Many thanks for all your posts.
I'm off to have another look now.

It would be worth checking the power supply to the back of the ignition switch. If there is 12v between the this and any suitable earth that you can find then the fault is with the switch. If there isn't then you know it will be between the battery positive terminal and the switch. It could be the fuse or the cable itself. On my 2005/6 2.8jtd the fuseable link is on the panel that sits on the back of the battery near the +ve terminal but there is another high power rated fuse on the bulkhead near the battery. You can find this simply by following the lead from the battery +ve. It's a large red fuse. Hope this helps.

The Battery should read at least 13.8 volts, even though there is a reading at the battery it doesn't mean there is sufficient amperage to turn the engine over, I would try a new battery first.

I'm with Start Rescue, I found it to be the cheapest when I originally signed up - maybe worth signing up today then giving them a call in a week or two to tell them it's just happened!

Sounds like a main lead to or from the battery has gone put a test meter across the terminals maybe try a good earth point to positive. Follow the main leads, one should go directly to the starter motor, the other should go to the main fuse...

Hi and thanks for the latest 3 posts.

I am at work at the mo :-(, but can't wait to get home later to try what has been suggested. :)

After being on a trickle charger for a couple of days the battery was reading 13. something. I think it was 7. I've already tried the lead to lead check and got the same reading as pole to pole. I may need a new battery, or possibly new + leads, but want to try and rule out the cheapest (fuse) first.

Many thanks for the replies so far. I will get back to you when I've tried the latest tips.

Well from another forum regarding a 2000 2.8 there is a mega fuse near the positive terminal of the battery..Has that been found yet..be interesting to see picture of it...

Hears a wee bit info from a kind Tech. Picture shows mega fuse near or on top of battery terminal. B001 is fuse box. P005 is Horn. T03 is Relay...This was for a Horn fault but just to ilustrate that fuse....

Thanks again Goggs,

I have just got the battery off and was going to disconnect the positive cables to see if I could get a batter fit on the positive pole, when I noticed a loose lead. It comes from the + terminal and has a rectangular plug on the end of it, but I can't where it connects to. There isn't an empty socket that I can see.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks,
Ceryl
