I can only find threads on this for older models so hoping to get some help with my 2006 2.3 JDT.

During a longish Motorway run my Ducato failed to start repeatedly on the first attempt but always fired up straight away on the second attempt. It does this now nearly every time hot or cold. I've read quite e few times that this could be the cam position sensor and I would like to have a go at replacing it but have no idea where its located.

I've downloaded the workshop manual but haven't got a cd burner on my Laptop so am stuck.

Help please.

Cam sensor is on left of the engine reading the top pulley check the gap first though and look at picoscope ducato cam sensor pics some brackets s were too short

Cam position sensor is like the Crank sensor, with old age and the heat next to the engine they become drunk, electronics inside them attain hairline fractures resulting in odd readings being sent back to ECU and of course it shuts your engine down. But he ho it may start again next time but cut out same way....

Hello goggs of Ae, I never had a problem once the engine started, it just wont start on the first attempt.

I spent about 30 years of my life just outside Canonbie and used to go orienteering in the Forest of Ae.

Hi there Rigormortis, well I bet you enjoyed the constant rain, drizzle, wind and frost that we get her in the Ae Forrest valley. Worst place I have lived in but house was cheap..Place is reknown for Mountain Biking tournaments now and cycling along the single track roads, (our road).
Lack of first time starting can be down to not enough pressure in fuel rail due to leaks in injectors or bypass valve. There should be no fuel return to tank in this instance. Some cars even suffer with air in the supply fuel due to leaks at filter seal or priming pump.

Hey mate, ive had a few 2.3 that wont start due the the manifold sensor was totally blocked up. Have you got good low and high fuel preasure?

Without trying to start the engine, just turn the key onto ignition for about 15 seconds, turn off and try to start, or leave it on and then try- does it go then? I had a Renault with a dud crank sensor, sometimes did this. Didn't cut out while driving tho. Maybe glowplugs are tired if fitted and need 2 goes to get them hot enough.
