I broke down at the weekend when the filter started leaking, I got it sorted and back home but most of the Internet help I found said replace the plastic housing for the metal version.
Mine is a 2010 with sensors top and bottom. (Water & temp?)
I haven't been able to find a upgraded metal replacement, are they available?

The only issues Iv had with these fuel filter housings leaking is when non genuine fuel filter and seal been fitted,if you get a genuine fuel filter and tighten the plastic nut to the correct 30nm torque it should be fine the metal version for the later model from 2016 ,remove housing clean it out is there any sharpe marks where seal is positioned from being over tightened ?

Thanks Whineo I've also learnt a lot about the filters in the last couple of days, but
was trying to find out if there was an upgraded housing available?
(it's mentioned a lot but not seen)

I have the cradle since 2007. Torque them to 30nm etc. Some just always leak, no matter what. I had one customer go through 4 separate new OEM filter housings since 2010, fitted by myself and 3 different main dealers. Some leaked after cold starts, some leaked after several thousand km, some shortly after setting off. A FIAT Professional garage checked the fuel supply pressure and it was fine.

We tried OEM filters/seals from Peugeot and Fiat , MANN, and my own personal favourite, MAHLE/KNECHT. None solved it.

Eventually, I figured out how to upgrade to the (ridiculously overpriced) steel canister filter on the 2012 on models. The wiring and pipework is different, the wire colours don't match, and you can't just buy new pipes as they don't match the connection to the fuel rail and tank.
Also they're very expensive.

But this particular customer was so distraught with the leaks he was willing to pay whatever the cost.

Since then, I've had a serious in depth look at the plastic housing, consulting engineers, and people in the industry.
I reckon it's the design of the seal and the recess it fits on.
As a result, I've had a specialist manufacture produce a batch of custom seals, to our dimensions, and we have them on test in a couple of Motorhomes that had leaks. So far so good. But I'd like to have a few more weeks before I'm fully confident.

Long post, but it's an issue that is a major headache for many, and I've put a LOT of hours into it.

So in answer to my question, there is not at present an updated steel canister for a 2006 on x250.

No. And FIAT were completely UNHELPFUL and refused to acknowledge the problem. They wanted to keep fitting the black plastic housing.

Is there something in the fuel your side of county?i hear stories some areas of country get through more fuel injectors down to fuel, this vehicle seems odd to keep leaking I see vans I changed filter years ago dry around fuel filter there is a technical platform for dealer to contact for anomalies like this? a dealer wouldn’t modify the original fittings but they should look into the pressure issue and fuel condition a bit more what miles vehicle done?

low mileage Motorhome, fuel bought all around Europe as it's used for continental holidays as well as Irish. Never any other fuel or engine issue. Filter would stay dry for ages, then boom, leaking.
As I said, a dealer did take it in for fuel pressure testing.
