Was wondering if anyone could recommend an obd scanner that would do most readings for Fiat and Mercedes. Theres so many out there and so much bull**** I thought it best to ask here first and I dont mean an expensive one for a pro?

I'm interested in this aswell. Have bought this stuff in the past.
First kit was off ebay and worked really well until a friend borrowed it and damaged it. I have been struggling to sort this issue out.
As I bought a few cheapo ones and they did not perform like the first one.

I purchased a blue tooth device that you plug in. You have to make sure that it will work with your phone. Mine did not. But they seem like the way forward on the cheap and cheer full stakes. As I've had mates get them and the odb software on android is really good.

If you find someone local on gumtree selling them you will be able to test them before buying them. You will have to get the app running on your phone then make sure the ODB can sink with firstly the phone and secondly the app.

As I need to reset my service light on the van I am planning to do this.

Most cheap scanners will only allow you to read the codes, and only the non-manufacturer specific ones. The only software available to DIYers currently with the ability to properly read FIAT/Alfa/etc specific codes, and to clear/reset indicators, is MultiECUScan.
:yeahthat:
Multiecuscan is the best option see www.multiecuscan.net
The software, a ELM327 USB interface and some adaptors will give full access to all modules on a modern Fiat. A suitable interface and lead set is

Any laptop running Windows XP SP2 or newer will work OK. A Panasonic toughbook CF19 with a SSD and touchscreen is wonderful.

Yes thanks very much. I downloaded the software onto my pc to have a look at it, not bad for freeware! All I need now is a new laptop. I will be interested to know how to find a "STAR" clone software for the car?
Maybe Torque will see this post!
Could mssg him I guess he always comes up trumps
So, you can get this to work on an Android phone too, is that correct?

The later star clones have a very bad reputation, a good autocom clone if you can find one can be had for £50-£60 and has good support for all german cars up to 2014 plus support for thousands of other vehicles IMO would be a better investment than spending hundreds on a dodgy star clone.
