Hi all,
New here, problem with obd2 not working, fuse is ok, power getting to it, but won't read codes or any info? Any one else had this issue? Thanks in advance.
2015 130 Ducato btw!

Thanks for the reply, just bought the Ducato, so don't know if it worked previously! Tried 3 different code readers, which work on other vehicles (one is snap on) all show power to the obd2 port, I even pulled F36 and power went off, but all readers say unable to make connection?

OK thank for the update. You either have a wiring / connector issue or a ECU failure. Wiring or connector is most likely. First visully inspext the OBD port and make sure there are no missing, bent or pushed back pins. Pins 6 & 14 (CAN) and 7 & 15 (KL) are the important ones. Also check for a ground on pins 4 and 5. If this is all OK you next need to check the wires between 6/14 and the ECU(s). Ideally you need the wiring diagrams to do this. If you don't have the diagrams, check for no connection to ground (>500 ohms) on each pin and a resistance between the pins of 50 to 200 ohms. This is not a 100% check as some ECUs use DC blocked terminators. Obviously do a visual check of connectors etc, but you really need the wiring info as CAN wiring is not obvious or simple and often has junction or test connectors thet can cause issues.

Hi first check volt pin 16 should have 12v Euro 5 don’t have ignition feed pin 1 so forget that, pin 6 can high pin 14 can low what voltage you got on them pin 4 earth if them ok reboot body comp by disconnecting 2 main power plugs on comp for minute Wouldn’t hurt to check fuses in engine fuse box too I have had this prob before had to restore vehicle configuration but you wont have that option

Ok, so lets ask the most obvious question. What issue are you trying to troubleshoot? Maybe it's part of the reason the why OBD2 readers aren't pulling any codes.

Thanks guys, this should keep me busy for a while, I'll update ?

I had the amber triangle warning light come on, that's why I tried the port!, all turns out it was one number plate bulb, no lights on now, but want to get it working for future reference!!

If the van is pre-owned, just wondering if it might have some sort of OBD blocker fitted. Did the keys come with any sort of card, tag or dongle attached that you don't know what it's for?

No, I just got the master (remote) key & a plain non remote key. There's one thing that I haven't seen before is the obd port has reconnect if removed on the black cover that plugs into the obd port?

Every thing seems to check out, no connections pushed back, earth pins check out, I've got 61.7ohms, between ports, but I haven't got a detailed wiring diagram, I don't have any issues with the van at the moment, but if I do have any I would need that port working,

Haven't checked the under bonnet fuses yet (raining at the mo) wiring checks out, when you say reboot body comp could you enlighten me? Disconnect battery???

Hmm, that's not the original cover. It looks like some sort of OBD connector plug with a flat wiring loom attached, presumably a take off to some type of device that interacts through the port. Can you follow the flat loom back and see where it goes? Probably won't help with why you're not getting any communication though, as I assume you've been removing that "cover" before plugging in your diagnostic cable?

Your other photo of the diagnostic socket removed from its bracket looks like the original though.

g8rpi knows more about the wiring side than me, so I'll leave that to the two of you!

Yes I removed it from the bracket to check wires & take pic, yes removed plug before connecting scanner in,
Just a thought!! When I got the amber triangle on, on the message centre in the middle of the dash clocks it came up check number plate bulb. At the time I thought that's clever to pin point a bulb failure!! But I'm wondering it that black plug is an onboard obd reader connected to the message centre?? Or am I putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5!!!!

Hi,
The "reconnect if removed" "cover" is not a cover, it's a connection to another device, likely a tracker/immobiliser/speedlimter. Trace were the flat ribbon goes. I'd leave it unplugged personally.
If you are getting 60 ohms between pins 6 and 14 and no shorts to ground, the wiring is OK. I'm not a Ducato expert, so your issue may be related to the reset whin0 refers to.

Hi that plug that’s says reconnect is an alarm power plug I see them all the time even if yours hasn’t got alarm maybe been disconnected at some time or is there any other aftermarket devices on vehicle needing power from obd socket ?because that’s not standard !the body comp controls the lights and monitors faults causing triangle warning light. As for reboot question you could disconnect positive off batt but a lot easier and quicker to pull the 2 power plugs off body comp the two big thick red wires front right, did you measure 2 can wire volts? Can you tell us what other code readers you’ve got do they read all ecus

Elm327 & d900 canscan are the two other readers, where is the body comp ?

Hi the body Computor is the black box with all fuses in it above obd plug this unit controls lights and is the gateway for communication to all ecus I have an elm 327 WiFi reader it will read engine ecu and clear mil light engine ecu on Ducatos only!! is yours the WiFi one ?if you want to scan body Computor you need better diag equipment

Yes it's the wifi one, (when I plug it in, I get a amber light on for about 1second then goes out, but the red light is constant) I'm just a little concerned unplugging the body comp , last time I unplugged one on a Hyundai coupe, i couldn't get it to fire up after!! Ended up getting a secondhand one & getting it programmed to the car, kept well away since!!

Hi elm327 will work Engine ecu only what app u using with it ?I use obd car doctor works great but you won’t communicate with body Computor with it anyway,as for rebooting body Computor if you remove two power plugs as long as ignition not on won’t hurt anything Iv not had a prob and I work on them all time, if your not comfortable trying it then don’t !
